Milei's government banned hereditary positions in the civil service

The presidential spokesman, Manuel Adorni, and the Minister of Deregulation and Modernization, Federico Sturzenegger, announced the signing of a resolution prohibiting the inheritance of public positions in Argentina.

The measure prevents relatives or spouses of deceased state employees from holding such positions, prioritizing the appointment based on merit and effort.

This practice had been banished during the government of Mauricio Macri, but was reinstated during the administration of Alberto Fernandez, allowing again the inheritance of positions in key institutions such as the AFIP, the Central Bank and the National Bank.

The End of Family Privileges in the State

With this measure, the current government seeks to dismantle a scheme of labor benefits that consolidated family privileges in the public administration.

Adorni pointed out that the prohibition of hereditary positions responds to the need for transparency and equity in the access to public positions. “The delirium that is being buried today is part of the logic that reigned in Argentina until December 10”, he said.

Appointments based on merit in the new civil service

As from this resolution, appointments to positions in the state sector will be exclusively based on merit and effort, eliminating inherited benefits.

“In this Argentina, no one has blue blood”, added Adorni, stressing the value of personal capacity over family ties.

Milei's reforms for a public administration without privileges

The elimination of hereditary public positions responds to the policies promoted by Javier Milei, which seek to dismantle the “political caste” and build a State based on merit.

Milei and his team argue that this reform is essential to eradicate the old practices of family privileges in the civil service and ensure equal access to state jobs.
