NYSC CHRONICLES: Promotion of Entrepreneurship Among Youths

Today was a very eventful day at the NYSC orientation camp today. We woke up as usual after 3am but because I fell briefly ill yesterday, so I took a while before standing up. When I eventually woke up, I realized that I had actually gotten better than yesterday. It was really sudden and scary yesterday. Maybe it was the excessive cold, maybe it was the stress or maybe it was just sleep deprivation, I might never know. I just kept shivering and it felt like I was releasing heat from my body. Well, I am just glad today turned out great, and became as eventful as it possibly could.

As usual, we had the daily SAED lecture but today felt like an actual Kickstart of the actual purpose of the scheme. SAED stands for Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development. It is a program designed for corp members (youths) to encourage the idea of entrepreneurship and help them become a boss of their own. NYSC collaborated with so many entrepreneurs to come and train us at little or no amount. It was actually very exciting when different categories were introduced last week. Not that I actually needed to add any more skills to the one I have and currently acquiring but then, I didn't have much choice. Apart from that though, there was a particular category that was announced that I have always wanted to know about. However, it is mainly for my business.

When I learned about the category, I was very excited and got myself registered immediately. Some of the skills that were announced were Bead making, Forex trading, Crypto trading, Fashion designing, Makeup, Cosmetology and organic products making, Gift boxes and design, Bead making, Catering, Laundry, Pottery, embroidery, Tye and dye, Data anysis and tech related skills,Etc. Out of all these, I doubt if you can guess the one that actually caught my interest the most.

So, for a long time now, I have been looking to get gift boxes for my business to curate gifts and packages just to spice up the whole branding. The search was so hard, I only got a place where they sell these ones that are just plain brown paper designs. I searched so hard and the few vendors I saw online were so far away and the prices weren't exactly affordable. I eventually gave up the search later on. Seeing the opportunity to learn how to make these gift boxes by myself felt like something the universe specially brought to me. I couldn't let the opportunity pass me by, I had to grab it.

We had our first class today, where we were taught the basics of what the class was about. The trainer made a cake box and paper bag for us, for a start. It was very exciting, I must actually confess. I am looking forward to how the rest of the class will go. My business packaging is about to move to another level and I am actually grateful to NYSC for the opportunity. We were told to pay a token by the trainer to get materials that we'll use for our personal practical. I hope I understand everything that will be taught without stress.
