MY OPINION ON COUPLES HAVING A JOINT ACCOUNT

For this topic, I have actually been opportuned to hear so many stories about it. So, I can say that it is not a topic where one can easily take a stance that one thing is right and another is wrong, there are so many things that can contribute to the success and failure of couples having a joint account. It is neither safe nor dangerous, it just depends on the type of people involved and their level of trust and commitment towards each other. Also, in a matter like this, we must remember one rule doesn't work for all.

We have heard of stories where couple will have a joint account and one person out of them will actually run away with the money. So much for 'together forever'! On the other hand, I have read of stories of homes run on this joint account thing by the couple and they are perfectly okay and doing well. Also, we have heard of couples having series of fights and disagreement based on this same joint account issue. Honestly, I think there are some topics that should never be neglected before getting into this thing called 'Marriage'.

Finances is one of them, one needs to know where one's partner stands to have an idea of how the home will be structured. Love is not enough in a marriage, there are so many other things that sustains a marriage asides love. It helps, there is no doubt about that, but it won't be ever enough. If there are too many issues arising for the couple, that is when you will see their love fading away gradually and one will start to wonder how they even got together in the first place.

Personally, I do not have issues having a joint account with my spouse because I would have definitely studied the kind of person I am marrying to decide that it's okay to trust him. There is even no way I will marry someone I don't trust, we'll literally be doing life together. Also, having joint account with one's partner doesn't mean one should not have a personal account as well. It is even very advisable to have that joint account so both parties can contribute there for the swift running of the home. Such funds can cater for emergencies, house rent, school fees of the children, home appliances and other important things. It only makes sense to do this together, they are called help mates for a reason. Infact, they are team mates and that is why cooperation is needed from both parties.

The whole responsibility shouldn't fall on one person's shoulder, and marriage is meant to be a team work. The most important thing when making a decision to have joint account with one's partner is to make sure you can trust them and also that they are as committed as you are. If we are going to be together for the rest of our lives and will be doing most things together, having joint account shouldn't be a problem. Remember though, each person should still have their personal accounts, that is highly important as well. Life is very unpredictable, and there has been so many stories so one has to always be on a safe side.

Somehow, I think you will always know if you can trust someone, or maybe, I should just speak for myself. In all, may we all end up with partners that will be loyal, honest, cooperative, loving, caring, and amazing all round. There is nothing that compares to having access to a lifetime of peace. So, the bottom line is to know your partner well and once you see you can trust them, it is totally not a bad thing to have a joint account with them. If you are doubtful or you just infact prefer things to stay separate when it comes to finances, that's totally okay so far both parties agree to it. Communication and understanding can help one in letting one's partner dance to one's tune, no one loves to be forced to making a decision. Basically, it still depends on you and your partner as well.
