IS IT WEIRD THAT I DO NOT HAVE A FAVOURITE FOOD??

When it comes to food, I am not the very picky type and it's very hard to call a particular food my favourite dish. It is safe to say I am a lover of good food. However, not having a favorite meal and not being a picky type doesn't mean that every food is okay with me. I have some foods that I completely dislike and some that I don't really like but I do eat them sometimes when I have no other choice. However, some foods are very much liked by me and I do crave them every now and then.

But then, is it weird in any way that I don't have a favourite food?

One of those foods is this food eaten by the Yoruba ethnic group in the southwestern part of my country, Nigeria. It is called 'Amala' and the flour is usually made from Yam flour, unripe plantain flour or cassava flour(this one appears in white color). I am from this part of my country, so naturally, I have been introduced to this food since I was young and I have grown to love it. This doesn't mean that every single person that belongs to the Yoruba ethnic group loves this me, there are Yoruba people that slander this meal every now and then. Very rude people! How dare they slander Amala?!😭😭😭

I love eating this meal with Gbegiri(made from beans), Ewedu(made from jute leaf), and stew(made from pepper, tomatoes, spices, and many other thing. This is where the proteins are usually served from in most cases). The combination of these three soups is referred to as "Abula" and trust me when I tell you it tastes like heaven, especially when a pro makes it. It can be made at home, bought at food canteens and it is usually served at most functions/parties. It is a meal that is very nutritious and very can be very tasty, people that do not like and eat Amala are missing out so much for real.

If rice were not a food that has been overeaten and abused in my country, it might be one of the foods I would really like too. Now, its just there for me and can be very tiring sometimes, we eat it too much around here. I like beans but it is not my go-to food but there is no bad blood between us. I do not really like Yam but I love it in the pounded form, preferrably with vegetable soup. I think Nigerian swallows are really the best meals we have, I wonder how some people will be so comfortable with not liking them.

Well, I am still hoping to try so many foods from different cultures and countrys, it is one of the things I really want to do when I am finally able to start my exploration. I am sure there so many amazing meals out there that will be very appealing to my taste buds. Good food is everything, for real and that is what I look out for mostly when it comes to food. It should just be so good.

Thanks for reading ❤️

Ahhhh my sister!!! If I had a favorite food, that would be it. Amala and Eweadu! I have not tasted anything as perfect as that in this country. Whenever my boyfriend’s mom makes it, it’s like I enter heaven, see God and then come back. Absolute Bliss!!!
