I VISITED A BOOKSTORE THAT SELLS AESTHETICS WITH THEIR BOOKS

You must be wondering what I mean by this hilarious title of mine, but I will surely explain. Ride with me.

I came across this particular bookstore on TikTok, where someone posted a video recommending it for a visit and patronage. I was intrigued! And the fact that it’s a bookstore in my city, not too far from where I stay, meant that I was definitely going to visit and check things out.

I have two friends who are my accountability partners, and part of what we do is read new books each month. I informed them about the bookstore, and they agreed we should check it out — maybe buy one or two books.

My initial plan was to get at least two books whenever we eventually visited the place, but at the time we went, I had just changed my device and was super low on cash. So, my plan changed to simply going to check things out and decide on my next buy.

My friend, on the other hand, needed to get a journal and was thinking of getting about two self-help books.

When we finally visited, from the moment we entered the mall, I was already loving every bit of it.

We went into the bookstore and oh my God, it was a beauty to behold! Seeing those books created an unexplainable feeling inside me. They had different sections — fiction, business books, history books, self-help, children’s books, and so much more.

I was immediately drawn to the fiction area and saw some of the books I had always wanted to own. At that point, I could only wish I had a lot of money with me — I would have impulsively bought so many books.

In fact, I was glad I was low on cash because the temptation would have been too great to resist.

They had all the Colleen Hoover books, the Bridgerton series, A Little Life, African fictions, and so much more 😭. I can’t even begin to mention all the books I saw there.

I had to ask for the prices of some of the books because I was so sure I’d be going back there to get some of those books that were giving me goosebumps 😂. This part was the most interesting because there was something off about the prices they were mentioning. I understand that they are situated in a mall and all, but the books seemed quite expensive.

What completely confirmed my suspicion was when my friend asked for the price of The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, and they said it was ₦14,000. I was shocked because I have a copy which I bought a long time ago for less than ₦4,000. I know everything has become expensive and things are not the way they used to be, but that difference was outrageous in my head. I decided to message the person I got my copy from to confirm the current price.

You will not believe how much he told me — ₦4,500!! I opened my mouth in shock because I couldn’t wrap my head around that massive price difference. Why buy one book for that price when that amount can get us like three books or more? When I told my friends, they were surprised as well. I then made a joke that they were selling aesthetics with their books — hence, my title 😂

That was literally the only sane excuse I could give for their outrageous price list.

We ended up getting only my friend's journal, went to a restaurant to eat, and then went back to our respective homes.
