HOW BODY ART IS VIEWED IN MY PART OF THE WORLD

I do believe art can take many forms, and when it comes to body art, I have seen some really nice and thoughtful ones. Personally, I do not like when tattoos are too much and take over too much space on a person's body. I love those one that gives a minimalist kind of vibe the most. I don't know if I will ever get one, but I wouldn't mind a temporary one, it is always so cute.

If you ask me why I won't get a permanent tattoo, I wouldn't really have a genuine reason to give. It used to be because I thought anyone with tattoo isn't eligible to donate blood until I found out that it is a big lie. Aparently, you can donate blood even if you have tattoos but it can only be after 6 months or more that you have gotten the tattoo. I really do not have anything against tattoos or people that get it. I just don't line it when it is too much, or when it's not so creative.
So, in my culture, they really frown upon the idea of getting tattoos but honestly, I find it very hypocritical. In the olden days, people do get tattoos as a means of beautifying themselves. Infact, they adorn their faces with it and that of their kids as a means of identification and beautification. It is called tribal marks and as the name implies, it can be used to differentiate one tribe from the other. By the way, I do hate tribal marks. I do not see anything beautiful in it and the way they give it to kids without their consent is very annoying and painful. In recent times, it has reduced drastically and its beautiful to see.
However, these older people suddenly decided that tattoos are not good and that they infact a sin. Some of them have it on their body themselves and yet, they disapprove it so much. In a way, I can say it is because of religion. Trust me, people over here are overly religious, even more than those that brought the religion to us. Aparently, there is place in the Bible, Leviticus 19:28 that says “You shall not make gashes in your flesh for the dead, or incise any marks on yourselves.” Religious people hold on to this so much to disapprove of tattoos.
In my culture generally, you will be looked with judgy eyes if you roam around with tattoos and they will even automatically classify you as irresponsible and wayward. There is just this general stigmatization against people that have tattoos. It's just the way it is around here and I try to understand why because body art is even part of our cultural background.

I also prefer small tattoos that have a meaning for the one who has it, beyond being a fashion or a tribal mark, which I don't agree with either. The human body should be respected by others and it should be up to each person to decide if he/she wants to carry a mark for life.
That's right, every person should at least have the chance to make that decision and it should never be by someone else.
I also recently found out that with tattoos you can donate blood 6 months after your last tattoo. That used to be one of the reasons for not having tattoos.
Your reflection on tattoo culture seems so valid, logical and focused.
Religion and scripture have limited us to many things, thank you for sharing that bible verse. @creativepearl
I was very shocked when I found out as well.
Thank you so much for your support and contribution✨️
It is very interesting the way each culture views different aspects, in this case the way tattoos are embraced .
Yeah, very interesting.
You are very right on the way religion dictate our affairs in this part of the world.
I love tattoos that held some meaning to the owner. It is a good way of making history to be part of one's continuous existence. I love it small and meaningful.
Same here! There is so much beauty in simplicity.
