Small Table
This time I’ll make a small side table to hold drinks and snacks during a party when we have guests over. For that, we made a visit to the junkyard. Here in Brazil, I have easy access to these places, which serve as warehouses for wonderful objects. I usually don’t go there to look for items, but my wife insisted and took on the mission of scavenging the perfect piece to match the wood I already had.

To go with it, I prepared a piece of wood that I had in my stock (yes, I keep wood scraps from the construction of my house). In this case, it’s a slice of a tree trunk that I received as a gift from a friend. Actually, there are two pieces. I’m filling one of them with a mixture of sawdust and glue to reduce a deep groove, which is a persistent crack that could compromise everything.

With the help of a grinder I bought, I was able to attach a sanding disc and use it to improve the wood’s finish. It also became more even, since I plan to place cups and glasses on it—it needed to be as flat as possible! For sanding, I used a circular 120-grit sandpaper.

I also used hand sandpaper to remove small rust spots from the piece that would serve as the table’s base. After sanding, I sprinkled some water and let it dry in the sun. It wasn’t necessary to remove all the paint, just a superficial sanding to remove rust was enough.
Using cardboard to protect the floor, I finally started painting, using a small brush. I know brushes are numbered, but I bought it just by size—I don’t know which number it was.
An interesting detail is that the paint looked dark blue when wet, but when dry it revealed the desired matte black tone. Two coats of paint were necessary to make the color uniform.
Now we can see a uniform color, despite the shine in the areas that are still wet. Let’s assemble and see the final result—it will be placed near the sofa, in my living room. The one who decides where it goes is the boss (my wife)!

Pequena mesa
Dessa vez vou produzir uma peça para servir de pequena mesa aparadora, para deixar bebidas e salgados durante uma festa, quando recebemos amigos. Para isso realizamos uma visita ao ferro-velho. Aqui no Brasil tenho acesso fácil a esses lugares, que servem de depósito de objetos maravilhosos. Geralmente não vou buscar itens ali, mas minha esposa insistiu e ela teve a missão de garimpar a peça perfeita para combinar com a madeira que eu já possuía.

E para isso preparei um pedaço de madeira que tinha em meu estoque (sim, eu guardo restos de madeira desde a construção da minha casa). Neste caso é uma fatia de tronco que eu recebi de presente de um amigo. São dois pedaços na verdade. Um deles estou preenchendo com uma mistura de pó de madeira e cola para diminuir o sulco, que é uma rachadura insistente e que pode prejudicar tudo.

Com auxílio de uma esmerilhadeira que comprei, pude adaptar uma lixa e assim usar para melhorar o acabamento da madeira. Ela também ficou mais plana, afinal quero deixar copos e taças sobre ela, seria necessário ser o mais plano possível! Para lixa utilizei uma lixa circular de gramatura 120.

Também utilizei uma lixa de mão para eliminar as pequenas ferrugens da peça que servirá como pé da mesa. Após lixar, joguei um pouco de água e aguardei secar ao sol. Não é preciso remover toda a tinta da peça, apenas lixar superficialmente para remover a ferrugem já foi suficiente.
Usando um papelão como proteção para o piso, finalmente pude iniciar a pintura, que fiz com auxílio de um pincel pequeno. Sei que pincel tem numeração, mas comprei pelo tamanho mesmo, não sei que número foi.
Um detalhe interessante é que a tinta parecia azul escuro. Isso enquanto estava húmida, pois ao secar revelou seu tom em preto fosco que era o desejado. Também foram necessárias duas demãos de tinta, visando deixar a cor uniforme.
Agora podemos ver uma cor uniforme, apesar do brilho que representa a parte que ainda não secou. Vamos montar e ver o resultado final, que será levado para perto do sofá, na sala da minha casa. Quem determina o local é a patroa!
