Education for All: The Right to Study in Brazil Despite Its Problems

Education is one of the pillars of any country, and in Brazil's case, unfortunately, in recent years it has shown many flaws and inefficiencies. I say this because, in addition to having gone through all the stages of education, my professional background is now in teaching. Being on the other side of the classroom and being able to feel and understand the challenges a teacher faces, especially nowadays, is quite complicated.

Furthermore, regarding structure, there are indeed very good schools that provide full support to students in terms of materials and good facilities like a sports court and perhaps even a swimming pool. But obviously, there are many other schools that barely have air conditioning installed in a classroom to provide students with the comfort they need to concentrate on their studies, as in Brazil, some regions can be quite hot during certain periods of the school year.

Among some flaws I perceive in education, I can say that there are some situations that, fortunately, are positive in Brazil. From an early age, there are daycare schools sponsored by the city government in each city, and here in the region where I live, my daughter started her schooling at age 2. She can study until next year and then move on to a larger school. Babies as young as 1 year old can also attend these institutions while their parents work.

The great thing about these daycare schools is that, besides the child spending basically the entire day there, they receive five meals a day, and because they are with other children, their cognitive development improves much more quickly. We notice her development when my daughter starts speaking sentences, which I still think is quite precocious for her age. Fortunately, the enrollment rate is high and accepted throughout the region, so there are rarely any problems enrolling a child.

As elsewhere, there are also private schools here, and families who can afford them can enroll their children wherever they choose. For the vast majority of families, there are public schools where their children can attend, and remember that in Elementary School, the enrollment ratio between boys and girls is essentially equal. There is no impediment to a child's right to study being denied.

Unfortunately, when we reach high school, where students are already 15 years old, things start to change. What we see in the vast majority of classrooms is that girls make up the majority. This even led teachers to discuss why, from this point on, we notice their significant absences, and the boys who attend, some of whom miss too much of the school year.

What was discovered is that in many of these families, the father is the breadwinner and starts very young to help support the family. As children grow older, they realize they also need to help at home, and balancing work and study often becomes very difficult for their age, which is why many drop out. There are social programs that the government provides financial assistance to these families, but even so, it hasn't been enough to reduce this absence.

I know that today it's a much greater challenge for students to stay focused on their school journey. In addition to the financial factors facing families, I can also say that students' disinterest may be due to [screens]. Technology, which was meant to help, is hindering, but this can be resolved by parents being present. Fortunately, there are no barriers to a student's education, such as religion, race, or gender.

Therefore, despite the barriers to education in the country, the [right to study] is free and also something that children have no impediment to being in a classroom. But as students grow, it becomes clear that a good school structure and better salaries for teachers can do much more good for everyone and help students continue their studies.

A educação é um dos pilares para qualquer país e no caso Brasil, infelizmente nos últimos anos tem se mostrado muitas falhas e ineficiência. Digo isso pois além de ter passado por todas as etapas de ensino, hoje minha formação profissional é professor. Está do outro lado na sala de aula e podendo sentir e perceber os desafios que um professor passa, ainda mais atualmente é algo bastante complicado.

Além disso, no que se refere a estrutura, existem sim escolas muito boas e que dão todo suporte ao aluno em termos de materiais e uma boa estrutura como quadra e quem sabe até piscina. Mas obviamente existem muitas outras escolas que mal têm um ar condicionado instalado numa sala de aula para dar conforto ao aluno para se concentrar em seus estudos, pois no Brasil, existem regiões que são bastante quentes num determinado período do ano letivo.

A Vida Escolar do Aluno no Brasil

Entre algumas falhas que percebo na educação, posso dizer que existem algumas situações que felizmente é algo positivo no Brasil. Desde cedo, existem creches escola promovidas pela prefeitura de cada cidade e aqui na região onde moro, minha filha iniciou sua jornada escolar com 2 anos de idade. Ela pode estudar até o ano que vem e depois irá para uma escola maior. Bebês de 1 ano inclusive já podem também entrar nessas instituições enquanto seus pais trabalham.

O legal dessas creches escola é que além da criança passar o basicamente o dia todo lá, eles recebem 5 refeições por dia e como estão junto com outras crianças, o desenvolvimento cognitivo é aprimorado muito mais rapidamente. A gente percebe a desenvoltura quando minha filha começa a falar frases que para a idade dela ainda acho bem precoce. Felizmente a taxa de matrícula é alta e aceita em toda a região e dificilmente existem problemas em matricular uma criança.

Como em qualquer outro lugar, aqui também existem escolas privadas e para as famílias que possuem condições financeiras, podem matricular seus filhos onde quiserem. Para a grande maioria das famílias, existem escolas públicas onde seus filhos podem estudar e saiba que no Ensino Fundamental a taxa de matrícula entre meninos e meninas é basicamente igual. Não existe nenhum impedimento para que uma criança possa ter seu direito de estudar impedido.

A Grande Evasão no Ensino Médio para os Meninos

Infelizmente, quando estamos no Ensino Médio, onde o aluno já possui seus 15 anos de idade, as coisas começam a mudar. O que se vê na grande maioria das salas de aula é que as meninas são a maioria. Foi até um motivo para os professores debaterem do porquê que a partir desse momento da vida desses alunos, podemos perceber a grande ausência deles e os meninos que frequentam, alguns faltam demais durante o ano letivo.

O que foi descoberto é que muitas dessas famílias o pai é o provedor e começam muito novos para ajudar a sustentar a casa. O filho com o passar dos anos percebe que precisa também ajudar dentro de casa e conciliar trabalho e estudo muito das vezes para a idade deles se torna muito difícil e por isso que muitos desistem de estudar. Existem programas sociais que o governo ajudam financeiramente essas famílias, mas mesmo assim não foi o suficiente para diminuir essa ausência.

Sei que hoje é um desafio muito maior para o aluno se manter focado em sua jornada escolar. Além do fator financeiro que as famílias se encontram, também posso dizer que o desinteresse por parte dos alunos podem ser [as telas]. Tecnologia que veio para ajudar, está atrapalhando, mas isso pode ser resolvido pelos pais presentes. Felizmente para um aluno estudar, não existe nenhum tipo de impedimento como religião, cor e gênero.

Portanto, por mais que existem barreiras na educação no país, o direito de estudar é gratuito e também algo que a criança não tem impedimento para estar numa sala de aula, mas conforme esse aluno vai crescendo, é visível que uma boa estrutura na escola e um salário melhor para os professores, podem fazer um bem muito maior para todos e que isso possa ajudar os alunos a continuarem seus estudos.
