Splinterlands | Why I Will Vote For Removing Vouchers !

The current topic in Splinterlands is all about Vouchers and how the system needs to be changed as it currently isn't working. There will be some proposals and I will be voting to fully remove them for these reasons...

The Problem With Vouchers

The main trend that has killed Splinterlands to the point where it is at right now is that too many different assets are being printed and everything gets overly complicated and unfriendly for new players. Vouchers are pretty much the prime example of this.

Around 2 Years ago, there was a proposal to introduced DEC-B which I was heavily against and made a post on Link. They pretty much tried to fix an inflation problem by creating a new token that created more of the supply which turned out to be totally ridiculous. Looking at what I wrote back then, the situation now has even gotten worse and we are still making circles around the same exact problem

The creation of new tokens and assets (Cards, DEC, DEC-B, SPS, SPT, Vouchers, Validators, Grain, Cards, Land, Totems, GLX, COLONY, Power Cores, Wagons, Runi, ...) with always to promise that use case will be given to them just doesn't work as it only shifts value from one to the other to the point where everything has trended down all the way to the ground.

In a way, it's a small miracle that there is still 31 Million value in all cards combined right now.

The Voucher Removal Proposals

Right now, there are 2 proposals to change the Voucher system. One of them would remove them and create DEC-B (or at least the option) while the other would allow players to buy exclusive items in the glint shop. I haven't looked overly deep into them, but I'm all for making the change to fully remove vouchers from the ecosystem making it way less complicated and confusing for new players.

One of the issues with the proposals is that Vouchers are also used to reward Node Licence holders. This is another issue with the ecosystem that they have done pre-sale after pre-sale with revenue promises while years later there still is no actual product and everyone is already getting paid out with inflation which only pushes the prices down further.

I would go as far as just stopping to print any more vouchers and let the system as it is for now to slowly let them get used up. The last thing that should be done is create more promo cards just to get Vouchers used up creating even more card inflation.

Why the Proposals Might Not Pass!

I assume many will see the proposal as something they is going to be taken away from them and vote No which might see it fail with everything staying as it is. Looking at the bigger picture though, the only thing that is going to save this ecosystem is that assets become scarce again with enough new players coming into the game. This would be the first time that an asset in the game is actually removed instead of created and I see this as a great deal toward getting on the right path. In the short term, it likely will cause some more pain but in the long run it should be way better for the ecosystem not to have vouchers anymore.

My Vouchers Balance

I actually never sold any Vouchers and just continued to stack and used them when I needed them. So far, this has only been the Vruz Promo Card Sale en 2x40 Vouchers to enter Wild Mode these past 2 seasons. This leaves me with a total balance of 3032 Vouchers earning around 45+ more each week from the 250k+ SPS I have currently staked.

Conclusion!

Creating new asset after new asset in the game over many years has made the game overly complicated for new players while it totally crushed the economy getting us to the place we are at now. So I'm all for removing one of the assets for a change and I will be voting yes to get rid of the entire voucher system which was a big mistake in an attempt to give SPS value in the first place.

Great overview. I agree we need to get rid of vouchers along with many of the other multitude of assets in the game. But I think like you mention, reversing things is harder than the implementation.

The difficult thing will be to have enough votes as many likely will see it as something that gets taken away from them.

Oh wow, then I guess getting rid of vouchers could simplify things, but balancing the whole system might be tricky.

I wouldn't take that number too serious. The gap between bidding and selling price is large and I think the number is based on the selling price only.

I guess a lot of it is hoping I would be able to sell my deck at current prices even though they are ridiculously low. I'm not sure if that many use Peakmonsters to sell at bid prices either.
