Sorare.com | New Card Minting System & 50$+ Limited Reward Card!

The Sorare Wheel & New Card Minting System.
There are a couple new things this season with Sorare. One of them is the Sorare Wheel which is a daily Free spin at the wheel which can earn you some rewards that potentially can be worth something significantly.
I assume what they want to achieve is users coming back daily, as you can claim 1 ticket each week while giving incentives for users to buy their auctions. However, as a player who has zero intention to put any money in the game, if feels like a freeroll value extraction which only brings about more inflation and pressure on the entire economy.
So it's clearly a system that simply isn't sustainable and it likely will be removed again in the near future. I did manage to grow my Essence quite a bit and they also give a 'loyalty reward box' which for me had 1000 Essence in it which did mint me a great card (see below)
The New Card Minting System
I must say that the new system is actually an improved and more fun one. Each mint costs 1000 Essence and you are presented with 10 hidden cards to choose from. So there is a major luck and Jackpot aspect to it which makes it more exciting. There is also a way to increase your chance of picking the best card are boosts which either
- Removes the worst 5 cards
- Reveals the Nationality
- Reveals the League
These boosts can be won in the sorare Wheel and they helped me to mint players from the Belgian Jupiler League which is my main interest.
3x Limited Card Draft
So far, I already managed to craft 3 Limited in-season cards and got super lucky on one of them as I uses a Nationality boost which got me to pick Hans Vanaken who is somewhat of a Star on Sorare.
He's 32 years old already but the 1st player on the sheet for Club Brugge who are still the best team in Belgium and who play in Europe. He is never injured, plays all minutes in a key role as one of the best players with great stats as he rarely loses the ball, makes a lot of passes while also having great stats on assists and goals. This is one of the best 'Pay2Win' cards in the Belgian league and I would argue the whole of Sorare as a game. So his priceis going at a premium at 60$+ now for an in-season card.
All of this makes him the 2nd most expensive player in the Belgian League despite the fact that he's already 32. However, since cards pretty much become worthless at the end of the season it makes sense.
I Sold instantly at 50$+
Card values in Sorare tend to age like Milk and each week that passes there are fewer matches left for the cards to be used, more cards get into circulation which increases the difficulty. In the past I always made the mistake to only undercut the lowest price for sale by a small bit which always ended up in the same way where it never got sold forcing me to lower the price undercutting more only to see it go lower and lower the weeks after. So I undercut this lowest price of 64€ by quite a bit also knowing the 50% discounts offered as rewards for Sorare sales.
So I put it for sale for 50€+ and it pretty much instantly got sold to someone I assume was looking to just flip it for profit which they succeeded in. I'm however pretty pleaved with the 50€ which alrealy makes this season quite good and it hasn't even started yet. I do plan to slowly opt out more selling the in-season cards that I earn and also start dumping some classic cards that I'm not really using anymore.
I also have 2 other cards drafted from the Belgian League, but I'm waiting for them to get minutes and possibly have some good scores to boost the demand and the price.
Conclusion: While it's fun to draw a good reward, the basic model Sorare uses continues to be a disaster, and investing in this game is nearly a sure outcome to lose money. So I continue to play with some of the cards that I owned from the previous season while slowly exiting, as I don't see any way for them to fix the broken economy.
Woah that is one of the best sorare cards you couldve gotten! Lord Vanaken is part of sorare lore.
The new minting system is a step in the right direction and I like the whole clues functionality.
I managed to mint a Kerim Mrabti which I sold for $10. I am doing your exact plan - sell (slowly which means, undercutting daily as new cards are minted) any in season reward cards earn and stack that ETH and exit.
I will continue to playing with my classics till the platform decides to call it a day or my classic card players have retired (I have had a few already this season retired so those NFTs are now useless)
I still find it crazy how many people are willing to pay big money for players like Mrabti. Things are clearly fundamentally broken though and I can only see more and more players go into 'value extraction' mode trying to earn back a fraction of what they put in which will put extra pressure on the economy. Too bad it's not possible to put a short on player prices, that would be the easiest money ever
