These playoffs so far have been very enjoyable to follow and Saturday was another good day bringing my total on the week to over 1 unit of profit and I hope to continue this trend into Sunday where there are 4 more matches including a 2nd division playoff match.
AA Gent vs Antwerp
This is a direct fight for the 5th place which will grant a double final encounter against Charleroi for the last European tickets. Both these teams obviously want this so I expect high motivation on both sides today. AA Gent plays at home and is 2 points behind on Antwerp so they are the team who need to take most risks while Antwerp likely would sign for a draw if they could. When it comes down to form, AA Gent in their last 4 matches took 0 points with a 15-1 goal saldo against. One of their main issues is that they have a hard time to score goals while they have periods where they lose focus and just give it away in no time. At the same time, they were ok in the math initially against Club Brugge and only narrowly lost 0-1 against Anderlecht at home despite having a higher xg. So I would say AA Gent isn't nearly as bad as the recent results indicate. At the same time, the trend is also there that it's hard to trust them and they don't score easily. Antwerp after not losing 3 matches including twice against Genk did take a 0-1 home loss against the B-Squad of Anderlecht last week which was deserved. They also have a hard time to score especially with Janssen out and take a bit too many goals against better teams. I see this as a match where AA Gent will get the initiative but given how many goals they have gotten behind they might not be willing to take that much risk settling for going into the late stages of the match just needing 1 goal as getting one again means they will need to score 2 which is as many as they scored in 7 matches so far. The total line is set quite high for teams who combined only managed to score 8 goals in 14 matches. The fact is that AA Gent needs to take risks and at some point things might get crazy. However, I far more likely see that happening in the 2nd half and thing the HT Total is too much derived from the FT total. I took 0.3 units on
1st Half Under 1.25 @ 1.958 & 0.1 unit also on
1st Half under 1 @ 2.561. I'm also leaning toward AA Gent on the 1st half corners +0 handicap as they are the team at home who need to win and take the initiative.
Genk vs Club Brugge
With Union taking another win yesterday against Anderlecht, it's a must win situation for Club Brugge who have more to lose than Genk who can play stress free but still with enough motivation. The question however is how hard they are knocked down mentally after losing the 1st position having taken 4 losses and a draw in the last 5 playoff games. They also are without Karetsas and Bangoura with Sattlberger likely coming into the team. Club Brugge continued to be in an ok flow as they won the cup match last weekend. They also showed against AA Gent that they are able to come back from falling behind in a match where they created 16 shots on target. At the same time the stress levels might be a lot higher today. Genk in their recent losses also always had low scoring encounters. Honestly, I'm not 100% sure what to expect from this one as I can see different totally different scenarios play out. Brugge can be just the team with more quality and win it or Genk can rise up and play freely while Brugge gets hit with some higher stress levels. I will just wait and see how it plays out in-game.
No Pre-Game Bets
Dender vs OH Leuven
This is a classic playoff 2 match with nothing to play for and it can either turn out in a very dull match where both teams don't care or a crazy high scoring encounter with 5+ goals. Dender so far had high scoring encounters especially away from home and they tend to start matches with high motivation and good work ethic putting high pressure which eventually fades away. The coach of OHL tends to rotate heavily in these playoffs sometimes putting the entire B-Squad defense in. Their thing is also that they take a lot of draws and they especially at home had not lost in a very long time until last week against Mechelen which shows that they kind of are at the end of their motivation. Often they also started matches less motivated so I can see a scenario where Dender is simply the better team in the first half with more motivation playing at home. I took 0.3 units on
Dender 1st Half +0 @ 1.881 which feels like a good risk-reward bet. I'm also leaning toward Dender oin the 1st half corners and a potential high total high odds over bet as the odds of a playoff 2 match turning into a goalfest are quite favorable.
Patro Eisden vs Lokeren-Temse
This match will be played at 16:00 and I will be fully able to watch it. Lokeren lost with 1-2 at home and will need an away win to either get to extra time if it's with 1 goal or go through to the final against Cercle Brugge (who are in really bad form) to get back in 1st division. So Stakes are quite high. Lokeren won on the expected goals in their home match at 1.95 vs 0.95 so they should stand a fighting chance. However, if an away team already took the win in the first match, not much is needed for them to also win at home. I will just watch and see if some bets come up that feel worth the risk. Especially late in the match there can be many scenarios where there are clear incentives that open things up for some good betting opportunities. No Pre-Game Bets
