Playoffs Week 7 Saturday Previews

These are previews from matches involving Belgian Teams with all the latest on team news, player form, and injuries along with my personal betting angles, ...

Things continue to go as I anticipate mostly during these playoffs which slowly but surely starts giving me some more confidence. There are 4 matches today including a 2nd division playoff match which I have some interest in.

Cercle Brugge vs Kortrijk

The main story for Cercle is that they have been unable as a young team to control their nerves in these playdowns which really influenced their performance and confidence so far. They are after a close 3-1 win last week against direct rival Stvv now 2 points clear but still can't afford to lose today as that would likely mean they need to take it up against the 2nd division team to stay in the league. A draw would still leave things in their own hands but they will need to go win away in Beerschot which is easier said than done given the fact that Beerschot still goes for it and Cercle might suffer even more from nerves. So I assume that Cercle will just play to win today not speculating while a late draw still means Kortrijk will have to go all-out. Kortrijk right now only has a mathematical chance if they win today and Stvv fails to win against Beerschot leaving a direct confrontation in the week after for the 3rd spot. As the result of stvv is not known yet they only have 1 objective which is to win this match. They have shown to be capable as they did win away with a 0-3 score against Stvv. I really like the over in this match which feels like it is just set really softly. There is a stressed out home team who will want to win even though a draw would leave things in their own hands and an away team who only has 1 choice which is winning and getting behind might mean a complete collapse. I have a tough time not seeing at least 2 goals in this match but at the same time I would not be surprised to see most goals come in the 2nd half. I did take 0.2 units on Over 2.25 @ 1.826 / 0.076 units on Both To Score @ 1.952 / 0.044 units on Cerlce Win & BTS @ 4.250 / 0.04 units on Kortrijk Team Total Over 0.75 @ 1.870. The idea is to ramp the stake on the over up if there is no early goal and if the odds go up / line gets lower. At least 0.6 to 0.8 units is the objective to have at risk.

OH Leuven vs Kv Mechelen

OHL is a team that is unbeaten at home in 17 out of their 18 matches only losing with the smallest difference against Club Brugge. They also are still in contention for the 1st place in Playoff 2 with 3 points behind on Charleroi with 3 more matches to go after this one. The main question remains though how motivated they are and also if they fully go for the win this time not settling with a draw might give Mechelen more opportunities. Mechelen more or less is knocked out of playoff 2 as they are 5 points behind and haven't managed to win in the last 4 matches. I kind of assume in this away match that the motivation will not be 100% for everyone. Just purely on the home record of OHL who just don't lose, I had to take 0.3 units on OH Leuven +0 @ 1.988 and also 0.1 unit on OHL 1st Half +0 @ 1.972

Union vs Genk

Union is in the lead now thanks to their play style in the previous matches where they managed to break down opponents first taking close 1-goal wins against Genk and Brugge and in the last match settling for a draw which was closer to a loss. The difference now is that they can't speculate on the draw and they absolutely need to win. So the question is how they will approach this match and if their will change their plan compared to the last 3 games where the easy bet was to take the 1H Under. I can see both scenarios where Union goes just full out or where they once again just fully break down Genk at the start with the hope to get one in and the option to take risk later in the match. Genk has cracked under the pressure and are now in a situation where they have nothing to lose while they still have the title in their own hands. So only a win will do for them which should give for an interesting end of the match. I was willing to take a small gamble on a similar 1st half scenario where Union plays their regular style which does not suit Genk. 0.16 units on 1st Half Under 1 @ 2.200 and might switch toward and over as the match goes on. An away win also would not be a massive surprise to me but not to the point where I'm taking a gamble.

Lokeren vs Patro Eisden

This is the first of 2 matches to decide who will take it up against the 2nd team of the playdowns to possibly promote to the 1st division. Lokeren came back from a lost position late in the match against RWDM losing with 3-2 away after winning 2-0 at home the week before. They are in an impressive form in the 2nd half of the season after changing their coach and getting Naingollan on board. They ended the season taking 24 points on 27 with 8 wins and just 1 loss away against RWDM. Patro managed to win 3-2 from Beveren and 1-2 away from home with the home team getting an early red card in the 1st half. In the last 9 weeks of the league they took 15 points out of 27. So for me just based on the league form and momentum of Lokeren, I had to take 0.1 units on Lokeren +0 @ 1.965. They have the home advantage while a draw for Patro would something they are going to be willing to settle on.
