Cercle Brugge and AA Gent managed to quality for the next round in Europe and I managed to start this week of with a small profit going into the weekend. Plenty of matches and action coming up starting in a couple of hours with Union vs Beerschot.
Union SG vs Beerschot
Union started the season great winning the Super Cup with a continuation of their good form of the last years. In the league however, they didn't come further than a 0-0 draw away against Dender in a match where they were better but didn't manage to create many chances. The offense is where they got weakened a lot with both Amoura and Nilsson leaving and Puertas nearly has to do everything in the team. So it remains somewhat of a question if they will be able to keep the form of last season and the super cup or if they again will have difficulties when facing a defensive opponent. Both previous matches were away but now they play at home. Last season they tended to do good in home matches against mid-low -table teams. 5-1 OHL, 3-1 CHA, 4-1 EUP, 3-0 KVK, 3-2 RWDM, 2-2 WES, 2-1 STA with all these matches going to 3 goals or more. I do expect an Union with a drive forward from the start also today. Beerschot is a promoted team and they are seen as one of the main relegation candidates. At home last week, them managed to keep OHL at a 0-0 draw but they were the weaker team in a match where neither of the teams wanted to start with 0 points. Usually new teams don't do very well in their first away match against a 'top side'. I fully expect a match picture where Union has all the initiative and Beerschot crawls back. The big question is if the current Union offense is good enough to break it. These types of matches I usually put at -1.5 at 1.85 odds but given the uncertainty I would need at least 2.1 odds and some kind of confirmation to get in. If it stays 0-0 for a while or if Union is at a 1-goal lead late in the match I might have a god at them. I'm also leaning toward the Under 3 line at even money but last years results really makes me doubt not willing to take the risk. Union is also still missing Burges and Sykes in the defense. Union also has a Chapions League qualify match coming up so they might not push when leading by 2 goals.
