Not really the Saturday I hoped for but at least both crypto bets won even though I was unable to also take those with my regular stakes. The grind continues on Sunday where the top teams will play in some matches that should be interesting to watch but might be hard to bet. So I'm taking a cautious approach again.
Anderlecht vs Club Brugge
Anderlecht arguably played one of their best matches last week against Mechelen but remain a team who never really stays solid 90 minutes long. They did tank good confidence and will have belief in the match today against Club Brugge. With Bertaccini back, they also have way more scoring power compared to when Vasquez was forced to start who now have been degraded to 3rd striker. Overall I'm moderately optimistic about Anderlecht as a team even though it remains a small miracle that they are in 3rd place. Club Brugge has been a team that gets the job done in the league without covering their handicaps as they struggle against defensive teams. Thet started well in the Champions league against a more forward team, were put with their feet on the ground in the 2 matches after getting punished against better team but did come back strong last week against Barca where they could have won. This boosts their confidence but there is also a potential fatigue factor. As for the match today, I have no real idea what to expect in how teams will play and how it will play out. I can see scenarios where Anderlecht goes full force both with it woring or them getting punished on counters. They also might take a defensive approach making for a boring match. In the past with these matches, the lines pretty much always told what was going to happen often with Anderlecht getting low odds which made for a match where they were surprisingly good or the line on club moving from -0.25 to -0.75 resulting in a 0-3 win. The most remarkable stat that I see now is that Club Brugge this season yet has to lose a corners matchup. At the same time, Anderlecht has only lost 1 at home (the only match against a top team). This made me willing to take 0.16 units on
Club Brugge +0.25 Corners @ 1.930 and 0.14 units on
Club Brugge +0.5 Corners @ 1.810
Sint-Truiden vs Standard
Stvv is 4th in the league and have shown that they are a capable team under Vrancken. Last week, they won with a 1-0 score against 10 players from Antwerp. I have felt in previous matches also that they aren't always looking to extend the lead once they take it. Against the better teams they also slightly fall short. Standard is a team who showed signs of improvement right after Euvrard took over, but by now it feels like nothing really changes and they suffer from a lot of injuries in their team (Ilaimaharitra, Fossey, Nielsen). Last week, they took a 3-1 win against Charleroi but it was flattering and they were extremely efficient while generally showing poor quality. My notes say to potentially back Stvv -0.25 / stvv corners / standard Team Total Under. I would have done the -0.25 at 1.8+ but it has come down, the corners handicap is also quite high at -1 on the 1st half and -2 on FT while standard mostly fails to win but doesn't get crushed on them. That leaves me with Standard Team total which is set at 1 and just about good enough for me to take a tiny 0.1 unit on
Standard Team Total Under 1 @ 1.930. I do fully expect a match picture where stvv takes the initiative and Standard crawls back luring to get in counters.
AA Gent vs Genk
AA Gent has been a very weird team switching good performaces at home where they win 4-0 with poor away performances where they lose 4-0 and it's very hard to trust them. Last week they pretty much got hit on every counter against a defensive OHL and didn't really deserve to get 4 goals against. I do see them as a team with good potential and one of the only ones who are better compared to last season but still very unstable with a lot of work in progress. Genk had a difficult season so far this year as they showed to be way too vulnerable in defense while their offense was not good enough to make up for that. recently, it started to show better and they also started soring more easily with Heymans back from injury and Karetsas in better form. The one thing that right now keeps me from backing them is the fact that they picked up possible fatigue from the Europa League as they played on Thursday away against Braga with their full A-Squad clearly showing that they wanted it which also worked as thy won with a 2-3 score. My main lean on this match is on the over as both teams have shown somewhat vulnerable defensively while they likely both will go for it instead of waiting it out being scared. For now, I only took 0.1 unit on
Over 3.5 @ 2.720 with an eye to take more at a lower total line if there is no early goal. I will see what the match brings before considering more bets.
Mechelen vs Union SG
Union this week in the Champions League on tuesday actually played a good match against Atletico who in the end did win deserved. In the league they continue to win their matches and crush their handicaps even though they rarely really play convincingly. They needed some help from the ref last week to get passed Zulte-Waregem. They were not impressive against Stvv but still won the week before. Mechelen is now in the media portraiyed as their nemisis who they never won against. They are 6th in the league and I would argue are slight above their real standing. They have shown good things at times but at the same time also always feel like a team who are close to a losing streak. This might have started with a 1-1 draw at home against Leuven followed last week by an off day and a 3-1 loss against Anderlecht. I do expect high energy from Mechelen while Union might have some fatigue factor from the Champions League even though last season they never showed this. I'm not willing to back Mechelen, but also not Union at a low odds -1 line. Mechelen tends to crawl back when they are in the lead so my main angle on this match will be to hope Mechelen takes the league maybe backing Union on the corners and the hadicap afterward as I do see them capable to push back Mechelen especially if they crawl back. Mechelen also continues to be a rather high corners team and I can see a scenario where a high line with high odds on the over corners gives some value. for now,
