The unofficial Start of the season is today with the Supercup betwen Union and Club Brugge which I'm looking forward to. I will pretty much continue to same way as previous years again trying to get my average stake up a bit while at the same time staying cautios as the markets have shown to be quite hard to beat.
Union vs Club Brugge
This is always a glorified practice match between the Champion (Union) and the Cup Winner (Club Brugge) which has a pattern of the home team taking it more serious in front of their home fans while the visitors downplay it. This brought about a crazy 18W-0L streak of home wins, which was broken last season by Union on the road beat Club Brugge. The roles were reversed as Union the year before, lost the championship to Club Brugge who also had some injured players in the Super Cup but still a capable team. Union saw a couple key players leave already with Morris (youngster Keeper Champaere remains a questionmark), Machida, & Sadiki. This while some others are possibly still eying a transfer. For Club Brugge it's similar with De Cuyper, Jutgla, Talbi already having left while Jashari won't be in the team and some others also with an eye on a transfer. Stiker Milsson, Meijer, & Siquet are injured which makes this a match where Club Brugge is able to still field a good starting 11 but where they have a really young bench. Club Brugge has also a couple new players to integrate while Union will mostly start with players from last season. Basically I could make a case for both teams given the current -0.25 handicap. Traditionally, the home team is the way to go in the Super Cup, Union has a team that should have an easier time to load up for this match and they have a stronger bench. Club Brugge however remains Club Brugge and they might be out for revenge setting things straight before the start of the season similar to how union did this in the super cup last season. Union last season played a really annoying high pressure and defensive style against top teams which won them the championship. This often resulted in 1st halves that were very low in chances. With a banch full of younghsters, I would not be surprised to see a similar strategy today so I don't expect it to be a wide open match from the getgo and an Union that kind of anticipates to have an easier time in the 2nd half. I took 0.233 units on
1st Half Under 1 @ 1.940 likely with an aye to put some safe in case there is no early goal or if the match picture isn't what I anticipate. If Brugge brings in many subs in the 2nd half and in case Union is not yet in the lead I might give that a try.
