The Deepest Fall

Pearrygin Lake State Park. We were supposed to camp here last night. It was part of the plan. Learning that the website hadn't been updated with information about the park being closed for the season starting this weekend was not part of the plan. The plan was therefore modified to include rolling around in the dark until finding a pre-snow sno-park lot off a forest road somewhere that the backup campground turned out not to be, then parking the car and pounding a beer and gorging on cold rotisserie chicken in the drivers seat with the heater blasting while listening to an audiobook about a wildlife reserve in South Africa to stave of the where-the-fuck-are-we jitters.
Twenty degrees outside. The modified plan continued to include Pilot and I leaving puddles of quick piss on the frozen gravel of the lot, then back hurry fuck omg into the car and into the bed with two sleeping bags and two disposable hand warmers, the light of a plump moon filtering through the frozen crystals of breath forming inside the window of the hatch.
Modified plan worked out all right.
It's fall on the calendar but that doesn't matter up here. The landscape is dark and dead. Colored leaves long since fallen from the trees now rot brown on the ground. The sky is grey and flat. Air bitter cold. Frost grows on the grass and on the goose shit.
And me, I am absolutely elated to be in an environment that so perfectly suits my mood.
I don't mind the hard days so much anymore. I can go through them like any other, now, knowing that the longing will inspire and give birth to many new creations.
And even if it doesn't...
It's just an internal winter. Contentment in hibernation.
Darkness. Silence.
Retreat.
Reset.
Subtlety.
Beauty.
Simplicity.
Routine.
Life.

I was reintroduced to camping a few years ago. Prior to that, I'd done a bit of camping in my youth, but back then, hardly anything was waterproof. My friend bought a car that could be converted into a sleeping area in the back. It was great. We even managed to squeeze her labrador in there. If I had my time again, I'd convert a van into a campervan and live in it.
Ooooooo my dream is to "hashtag vanlife" when I'm ready to retire (financially, of course, which may not be until I'm dead). I do love sleeping in the tent in the summer, but as a woman alone on the road it's so nice to have a car, i.e. tent that locks. And is waterproof, of course. I've done a little backpacking and camping in the rain, and even waterproof things have to be folded up and put away wet and muddy. All part of the experience, of course, but definitely not a part of the experience I seek out.
I know what you mean. I'd like to try wild camping but I'd need someone with me. I'm a bit of a wuss. I play safe and watch vanlife YouTube videos instead. I hope your dream comes true!
I've wild-camped alone-ish before with dogs. It's fun. And scary. Campgrounds definitely feel a million times safer (and the bathroom breaks are much easier).
Thanks! Me too. ;)
very beautiful place...
It is! Would be fun to see it in the dead of winter, too.
It seems like this place could be a destination to calm down
Yes, definitely in the late fall and winter. In summer it's probably full of shrieking children and jet skis and motorboats.
Thanks for stopping by!🖤
wow... The place you visit looks so amazing, some pictures of the natural scenery that are there make my heart so amazed. What a shot.
Thanks @furkanmamplam!
What a beautiful location, love the cute face of Pilot... His eyes are so expressive, puppy eyes...😌
Aren't they? He's my little old man puppy. Old soul. I've had people tell me he looks like he's about to just up and start talking, he's so expressive.
You know I guess that not all dogs have this kind of expressive eyes, I bet Pilot is a nice play buddy...
He is! He's got a great sense of humor that translates very well to human. Recently we were at the park and I was lecturing him on how when he growls at the big dogs it sometimes scares them and he really should try being less growly. He looked me in the eyes and let out a long stream of growling and then scampered off like a crazy maniac.
Another time we were passing the door of a neighbor with a visiting little dog that always barks from behind the door whenever she's there. She didn't bark so Pilot stopped in front of it and shook to make his collar jingle. When the little dog barked Pilot gave me a look of satisfaction and, as usual when he's joking, scampered off like a crazy maniac.
He does that, He and Gigi will be best friends. Well, Pilot is Pilot, you can't even imagine how his brain works. Gigi loves attention and she is very territorial. She loves people but she also understands who likes me and who doesn't. Unfortunately, she is not very social and she plays dead when other big dogs come to her...
I really wanna meet Pilot, maybe one day who knows right...
🤣 I can't even imagine, going by what a bouncy beast you say she is! Maybe there is some secret trick here that can help with her training...
Maybe one day, yes! It could happen. Pilot is very agreeable to the idea.
Gigi cannot be trained and I gave up 😀. So far 2 trainers and nothing changed. 🤣 Or I just can't handle her. 😂
Maybe she just needs a hamster wheel to run on all day!!
Gigi needs that definitely 😂

It certainly was. A good reset. Cold, though.
Little cold well worthwhile being out in nature, the scenery! 😇
