Why Homework Still Matters: A Case for Take-Home Assignments in Schools
“Would it be okay if kids in school were no longer given homework? Once school closed for the day, they left the school and took nothing home with them. Everything that concerns school only happens inside the school premises. Will this be a great idea? Or will it only ruin the system that has worked for so long? Please share your thoughts with us.”
Repetition, they say, is the mother of lasting impression. This is an attestation to the fact that for anything to become part of you, practice can not be neglected, and so when it comes to the subject of giving children take-home assignments, it isn't a bad idea.
Think about it. Most of the people who make waves in their various fields have personalized time for practice. Talk about the likes of the Ronaldos, Messis, and all the top musical artists, and they don't stop at just rehearsals; they go back behind the scenes to gain mastery.
The way I see it, take-home assignments are that backstage where children gain mastery. Take, for example, a child who goes to kindergarten. and is currently learning to write, and when they get home, their parents are also guiding them through that homework, and another child who attends the same kindergarten and whose parents are unavailable to guide them through the homework, you will find out that the child whose parents guide them assimilates faster than the other child .
Take-home assignments are also a way to improve memory retention and problem-solving skills in children because they will give the child the ability to spend time trying to solve a complex situation.
Creative thinking skills in order to provide solutions to some of the questions given: children can think creatively, paint pictures, use bricks to form shapes, and do some other creative arts.
Assignment will sometimes bring kids closer to their parents. You'll experience that most parents who work 9 to 5 only have the opportunity to be close to their kids when they are helping them out with their assignments. Also, it will give the parents the ability to know the strengths and weaknesses of their kids in order for them to develop those strengths and also strengthen the weaknesses.
Confidence development is something that giving children assignments will do for them because if a child is given an assignment and then that child is able to work on their assignment and get it right, there is a level of confidence that is established within that child that makes them know what they are capable of.
Now also giving children assignments will make the teacher know which of the children to give more attention to due to their performance when giving an assignment, so giving children assignments is not just a way to keep the children busy at home; it is a way to test them in so many other ways that can help teachers to shape them and know their areas of strength and weaknesses.
On the other hand, not giving children assignments or taking homework from school will give these children leverage to play and forget what they have been taught in school because, like I said before, reputation is the mother of lasting impression, so I want to talk about giving children homework. It is done in order for the teacher to be able to keep track of the children's progress on how they follow up on what they have been taught in school and how they are able to relate with it.
In my opinion, for teachers to be able to keep track of how children are able to understand or comprehend what they've been taught, school assignments are just the stuff because without assignments or homework, the learning process will be slowed down drastically, and this could have a turn on the child's ability to comprehend things.
