The illusion of going to the past vs the power of moving forward

Time and time again we often hear people say that if I had known earlier, I would have done things differently, but the truth is in life there is only a limit to the level of information we have based on the level we are at.

In this week's third edition of The Hive learners' weekly engagement topics, we consider if we had the time or the opportunity to travel back in time to correct some of our past mistakes, we would jump on the opportunity.

My personal thought on this is the fact that between the past and the future we have now, and I believe that the reason why we made the mistakes we made in the past is due to the fact that we didn't have certain information.

Because of things, I can probably say that instead of traveling back in time, use the experience from mistakes made in the past with the current knowledge now to make sure that you don't repeat those mistakes in the future.

Because, you see, it is only a fool who does something repeatedly in the same way yet expects different results, so if you have made mistakes in the past, it is not for you to try to want to travel back in time but for you to learn from these mistakes and make sure that those after you don't make such mistakes.

Also, some of the mistakes we made in the past have gone to shape us to become better versions of who we are today, so if we hadn't made those mistakes, we wouldn't have learned the lessons that we had to learn from those mistakes.

Instead of trying to change what has happened in the past, we need to make peace with our past so that we can forgive ourselves and prepare for the future adequately because sometimes we end up dwelling in the past and forget about the future.

And this is not just for mistakes made because sometimes we focus so much on our past wins that we forget that we could do better and win even bigger, so instead of improving ourselves to make sure that we are able to exceed our past wins, we sometimes glory in the past.

One of the lessons I have learned in life is the fact that we are a product of the decisions we take, and also no one moves into the future looking backwards, so while I have made a few mistakes in the past, I would rather learn from those mistakes than try to fix them.

This is because by the time I learn from these mistakes, I'll be able to guide my steps in order not to make those same mistakes, and then I'll be able to teach those that are coming after, telling them about my mistakes so that they can lean on my shoulders and reach beyond me and not make my mistakes.

So while I want to correct some of the mistakes I made in the past, I still would rather learn from them and move on because our past doesn't make us what our present decisions do.

Because our today becomes the yesterday of our future, so while we'll still have today based on the lessons we have learned from our past, we'll make better decisions about our future.

This is my take on the third edition of the Hive Learning Week 182 writing prompts. What's your take? Would you rather travel back in time or concentrate on today to create a better future? Let me know in the comments section below.
