My First Event Decoration Experience
"Share a story about one of your "firsts" maybe your first big travel, first personal big expense, first time away from home, first crush/love/kiss, first job/salary, or even your first time attending any kind of concert".
First impressions matter a lot. They say this statement is especially true because once you give people a wrong impression of who you are the first time, it is pretty difficult to correct.
The first time I saw a person doing decorations was in church, but the precision and way in which he was doing the job made me develop an interest in events. Then I approached him to teach me. Initially, he was reluctant because he thought that I would not be able to cope.
We eventually reached an agreement, and I started learning under him for a while when always going to work with him. Then, on a particular day, he had two events, which meant that I was going to handle one of the event decorations.
We made preparations like we would for any other event, and this event was a wedding and also an outdoor event. The couple paid for an open field and then got canopies and chairs for their guests.
Because of the weather conditions that period, the canopies couldn't be set in the evening of the previous day due to the fear of rain and wind, and so we decided to get to the venue very early since it was the first time handling an event decoration on my own, but on getting to the arena, I was met with shock as there was a football match taking place on the field.
Now, by the time the church wedding was at 10 am, and funny enough, that was the same time after the football game ended the tents were set up, and then I and the person that was meant to assist me started work. It took a while because it was the first time I was having to handle an event on my own, but in the end, we were able to finish the job in time.
Initially, when I arrived at the venue and was met with the situation, I panicked and called my boss, but then he told me to do my best because the situation on the ground at the time wasn't my fault because I had done my best to arrive at the venue as early as I could, but then there was the obstacle in the form of those guys who were playing football.
I learned that day that whatever we put our minds to was achievable if we gave it a trial, and from that moment I also began to believe in myself, no matter the kind of event I was handling, and my skills in event decoration have continued to improve and also generate revenue for me continuously.
Thank you for stopping by.
