From misconception to reality

What's something you used to believe in strongly, but no longer do? What changed your mind?

No doubt most of our belief systems are formed from the environment where we grew up and the kind of people who we grew up with; parents also have a part to play when it comes to belief systems.s For example, I once met a girl who broke up with her boyfriend because he never raised his hand on her🤔 Sounds weird, right? Now I got into a conversation with the guy who happens to be my friend, and he said one of the girl's friends told him the girl said she wasn't sure if he was a man simply because she grew up to see that her father beats her mom, and so when she offends this guy and he is angry and still doesn't raise a finger against her, she feels like this guy is a weakling because she believes that when her father beats her mom, their love grows stronger, but that's on a lighter note.

There are quite a number of things I grew up to believe because the environment where I grew up made it seem like those things were the correct things to do, and so it became a general belief in the environment. In this post I will be talking about a few that I can remember.

Quite a number of these beliefs came from other kids with whom I grew up, and for the fact that I was always curious, I would go back to ask my parents.

While I was in primary school, I had a friend who used to bed wet. He made us believe that the reason he bed wet was because he killed a lot of wall geckos, and this made me believe that if I killed a gecko, the same fate awaits me until my uncle killed a wall gecko when I visited him, and when I asked, he told me that my friend was just finding a way to justify himself so we won't laugh at him.

I recently found out that I have become too serious, thereby making me not partake in social activities, and all I found out when I engaged in a discussion with my colleague, who would be seen playing games or watching movies prior to an exam. I have always believed that one has to read and study countless numbers of hours to succeed in an exam or in life, but I found out that life is about finding the balance and doing the things that make you creative and productive.

Thank you for stopping by.
