From information to transformation the value of knowledge lies it's expression
It is true what they If education is expensive, try ignorance. We live in an information-driven world today where people seek knowledge about so many things, but in the midst of all the knowledge flying around, those with the right knowledge have an added advantage.
Knowledge is relative; that's why I said those with the right kind of knowledge have an added advantage.
Take, for example, a person who has studied even to the highest level in their particular field will not be knowledgeable in another field unless they get the knowledge in that field.
So while education is important, people still have to be intentional in their communication, relationships, finances, health, emotional literacy, mental literacy, and physical literacy, just to mention a few.
Because you see, out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks, according to the Holy Bible, and that is how the knowledge of a particular subject shapes our behavior and attitudes towards that field.
This is not to say that knowledge makes us better because some people receive the right knowledge, but because they are too scared to take action, that knowledge becomes useless, so in excess, the application of the right knowledge makes us better people.
A couple who haven't gotten the knowledge of how to handle children will definitely tend to make mistakes with their kids except with the right knowledge of parenting because what works for one may not work for the other.
There are some people born with some special abilities in some areas, and they wouldn't struggle in those areas. When such people decide to get knowledge in such fields, they tend to thrive even more than others who have been in such fields or spaces.
We may have heard people say things about people, about them being nice or being bad, and the truth is, outside of being learned, people's upbringing matters. If a person has been raised in a friendly environment, they tend to be friendly, and vice versa.
Also, we may have seen cases of people who were terribly treated become loving and caring and people who were raised in friendly environments behave opposite of what they were brought up with, and this becomes a matter of choice in each individual case.
So while literacy is important, a literate person has the power to choose whether they want to be good or bad. So while knowledge is important, the decision of a person to put the knowledge they have into action determines if they will become good or bad.
What are you doing with the knowledge you have? Are you creating a safe space for people to feel comfortable around you, or are you a toxic person?
So it doesn't matter if the knowledge was paid for or freely received. The expression you give to that knowledge determines who you are. Think about it.

I agree with you, education let you know more about life, how to get better with people around you, but honestly these days most Educated people have the worst character, this is just because they claim they know too much
When a person claims to know too much in our present day they only give off the aura of pride cause no man is an island no matter who wildly read they are
