Beyond equality embracing the uniqueness in marriage on society

Oftentimes we hear women say, "What a man can do, a woman can do better." This has made many career women rise to top positions in various fields and careers of their choice.

Many years ago you heard our forefathers say things like "School is not for women but for men because whatever field of career a woman chooses, she will still end up in the kitchen," which for me isn't true because, contrary to that belief, we have seen women like Ibukun Awosika, who has been able to thrive in both family and career, rising to the position of CEO in the renowned First Bank of Nigeria.

I believe that women educate the nation because when you educate a man, he will build a career and contribute to society, but when you educate a woman, apart from building a career, she will educate her children in order that they don't become cases that society has to deal with, so the importance of women's education cannot be overemphasized.

However, when the subject of gender equality is raised, we must understand that we are all first humans before male or female, and so everyone has to be treated in the light that we are all humans.

Addressing everyone as humans doesn't take away the fact that there are some things, career parts, and/or fields where the female gender might not be able to thrive as well as the male. This is because women are emotional beings and will sometimes make decisions based on emotions. Except for the subject of emotional intelligence, this has been significantly handled.

I have seen a case where a man said his wife can't earn more than him, but in reality, the wife's business brought in more money than his normal job, yet he found it difficult to come to terms with the reality that his wife earned more than him.

With the current economic condition, most men do not even want to marry women who have nothing, so you hear the phrase "What do you bring to the table?" because when a single party bears the burden of providing for the home and family, the task becomes very burdensome, especially in cases where the earnings aren't so much.

But when both parties come together to tackle situations head-on, then victory is inevitable.

Gender equality is actually seeing the uniqueness of your partner, male or female, and embracing them for who they are and partnering together to form a strong team that is able to face challenges head-on rather than trying to take the lead.

It is the ability to know what you're supposed to do and do it. God's plan when it comes to the home is that the man is the head of the family, and so the woman must learn to submit to the husband, and the husband also must learn to respect the wife.

And in the area of finance, the woman or the man could earn more, but when there is mutual understanding, people won't even know about it, not even the children.

Whether it's a female or male at the forefront of society, the goal should be to achieve a better society, and the best way to do that is to know that embracing the uniqueness of your partner is essential.
