Almost a Victim: Why I’d Choose Iron Man but Still Trust God to Rescue Me

Some years ago I was almost a victim of a mini kidnap; we call it here "one chance," and thank God I wasn't the greedy type because after I got into the cab on my way from Ughelli to Warri, they started a conversation around how someone had left some money in the trunk, and since they wouldn't be able to find the person, returning it to the police wasn't an option.

They suddenly turned the car towards Port Harcourt, and that's when I shouted for them to drop me, which they did, and zoomed off very quickly to find their next target, I guess.

There was once a kidnapping case of one of our close relatives; in fact, my younger sister was living with the family at that time, and those guys were so smart that when they wanted to call, they passed the call through various channels.

This made tracking very difficult because they had a network of calls from different locations, and so before you got to the main location, they would have terminated the call, leading the tracker to a dead end, and they were so smart they always changed phones because they knew those phones could be tracked too.

Fast forward to when that relative of mine was released. The kidnappers could never be tracked with all the technology and tech guys the husband spent money on. On one occasion, the kidnappers even told him to stop spending money on tracking because they could never get to them.

How she was released without a ransom remains a mystery and a testimony of God's goodness because the husband had to do an emergency 7-day fasting, which he didn't plan for because from the time he heard that his wife was kidnapped, he couldn't eat until the seventh day when she came back.

We have seen terrible cases of people who have been kidnapped, and it is not a situation anyone wishes even on their enemies because the conditions are not palatable. I saw how a woman who had very fair skin turned black in 7 days because they kept taking her from one forest hideout to another.

And she eventually received help from one of the guys who had compassion on her somehow, and that led to her release. If I found myself in such situations, which I don't pray for, and I had the opportunity of being rescued, I would prefer Tony Stark (Iron Man), well, for obvious reasons—how he blends tech and armory in that one suit.

Also, the fact that he would be able to dehumanize the enemy both in physical combat and in the case of a shoot-out. He is also very intelligent and is able to build his suit to required specifications for easy extraction of the victim.

But you know our God in heaven is able to fight battles without ammunition. I mean, take a case study of how those five kings came up against Israel, and just with the instrument of praise and worship, withoutthe children of Israel having to fight, the enemies killed themselves, leaving no one to escape.

Just like he came through for my relative when she was kidnapped—I mean, he is just always in the business of protecting his own, and while I would love for Tony Stark to rescue me, I strongly believe in the saving power of God.

In the end technology may fail because my superhero would rely on his tech to outsmart the enemy but could be faced by some challenges, especially due to the fact that he would need steady electricity for operations, which isn't always available here, but God's saving power never fails and doesn't require any electricity or tech.

This is my response to the Hive Learners' weekly featured content episode 2.
