Discrimination in a Housing Advertisement

Is the actually discrimination or I just feel like it has bigotry of it, I was having a brainstorming session in study group towards my ana incourse exam coming up ending of this month, just while the session was going on I saw a recent housing advertisement for two roommates in a self-contained apartment near my school ikeja and it has raised concerns about discrimination. While the ad provides clear details about payment terms, location, and capacity, its emphasis on accepting only "clean Muslim student females" is problematic.

This language may discourage inclusivity and alienate potential candidates who don't fit the specified criteria. Individuals seeking roommates should focus on shared values like cleanliness, respect, and compatibility with household practices, rather than explicitly excluding certain groups based on faith.
i shared this particular message with a Muslim colleague of mine and at first she said she didn't see anything wrong with the message until the next day .. then she messaged me and said she felt bad about what she said and you clearly admitted that it had to do with discrimination.

she added by saying:
Consider the perspective of a Christian student seeking housing who encounters this ad. They may feel excluded, even if they meet other requirements, such as cleanliness and being respectful of Islamic values. This exclusion raises concerns about fairness and inclusivity, particularly in diverse societies where opportunities should be open to everyone.

Both the Quran and the Bible emphasize principles of fairness, kindness, and respect for others, regardless of faith. Islamic teachings encourage living in peace and harmony with others, while Christianity promotes inclusivity and love. These values suggest that believers should strive for coexistence and understanding, rather than exclusion.

The advertisement's strict religious criteria may prevent individuals from applying, limiting their opportunities and reinforcing unnecessary divisions. Discrimination in housing perpetuates division and sends a message that certain groups are unwelcome.

*A more equitable approach would focus on shared values, allowing for greater inclusivity. For example, rephrasing the ad to "preference for clean and respectable females who are comfortable with Islamic practices" maintains the desired living environment while promoting inclusivity."

Discrimination in housing may seem minor, but its implications can affect social harmony. By fostering inclusivity, individuals can create opportunities for mutual understanding and respect in shared spaces, benefiting everyone involved.

while personal preferences in housing arrangements are understandable, it is crucial to consider how such preferences are communicated and their broader implications. Language that excludes certain groups based on religion or other characteristics risks fostering division and limiting opportunities for others.
