Hello, Hivers and Music lovers!

Tuesday in Hive is the day of the week to share some music. Discover new beats and songs, or listen to some oldies like the ones I will share with you today. And all thanks to #ttt or #threetunetuesday initiated by @ablaze which is already 174 weeks old on the blockchain.

Last night I spent hours talking to my son via video chat. I was on a long layover at an airport and in the middle of the conversation he asked me if I had ever listened to the band Musical Youth. He told me he had listened to one of their songs a lot over the summer.

It had been years, more like decades, since I had listened to them. But today I've been listening to some of their 80s hits over and over again.

Musical Youth was a British band formed in Birmingham in the late 1970s and whose musical career developed during the first half of the 1980s. The group mixed pop and reggae genres. The roots of some of its members were Jamaican. I found their songs so catchy.

But before I get into the tunes, let me give you a little background if you are new to Hive and aren't familiar with #threetunetuesday. In the words of @ablaze:

The jist is as follows
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the prize - more on that later.

You can find out more at ablaze's post with his recommendations for this week the #174.

Don't forget to support @ablaze's and if you would like to become a sponsor of #ttt give him a shout out.

And now without further ado, let's go with my tunes for this week.

Tune 1 - Musical Youth - Pass The Dutchie

If you have ever listened to Musical Youth you will no doubt remember this song, Pass The Dutchie.

The song was Musical Youth's biggest hit. About the song

Following a shouted intro taken from U Roy's "Rule the Nation" with words slightly altered, the track combined two songs: "Gimme the Music" by U Brown, and "Pass the Kouchie" by Mighty Diamonds.

Tune 2 - Musical Youth - Youth of Today

This was the song that inspired my #ttt because it was the one my son mentioned to me in our conversation yesterday. Youth of Today is the title track of the band's first album which also included the song Pass The Dutchie.

Tune 3 - Donna Summer ft. Musical Youth - Unconditional Love

One of the songs that was also very successful in the 80s was a Musical Youth collaboration with singer Donna Summer. The song Unconditional Love was included in Summer's album She Works Hard for the Money in 1983.

Have you ever listened to Musical Youth? If you liked the songs, which one did you like the most? Tell me in the comments.

Thank you very much for reading!

Enjoy the music, and enjoy life!

Hello @coquicoin I hope you had a good trip minnus the long layover.

I have never heard of the Musical Youth before, nor heard of them. I couldn't listen to them right now because I am sitting with the wife and she is watching TV as I was reading this. Didm't want to disturb her. If I can remember I will give them a listen later on. Thanks for sharing though.

Thanks, Joe! But it was my son who was traveling. He made it to college just fine.

I hope you were able to hear the songs, you may have heard the first song sometime even if you didn't recognize the name of the band.
Cheers!

Oh, sorry about that, I misunderstood about the layover.

I was able to finally listen to the songs and not sure if I have heard the song before or not. It is music I like though and would be something I listen to again.

Oh my! You took me to my early adolescence. I used to love the first song, but I had completely forgotten about it. Besides, I've just learned the title is "Pass the dutchie"... I used to sing whatever--whatever was that! Hahahaha.

Nice. Lovely songs. Love Donna ❤️

This is my first time learning about the band and oh my, they are fun to watch and listen to. One wouldn't be so stiff to stand up for a wacky dance with these tunes hehehe.

Nice one! I always loved Musical Youth, and especially Pass the Dutchie, even though I had no idea what exactly they were singing about at the time. My parents didn't either because they loved it as well, and wouldn't have if they knew LOL. I love Donna Summer as well. She's the all time dance/pop queen in my opinion. Powerful voice.
Thanks for sharing these. I'm already listening to 80's tunes now. My kids are frowning. So I win hahahahaha.

Hehe! Keep listening to 80s music with your kids sooner or later they will stop frowning and will love that music when they are adults, that's been my experience with my son :)
