Afternoon walk in El Virrey park

One of the positive things about the apartment we just moved into in Bogota is that it is only a few blocks away from El Virrey Park, one of the most extensive green areas in this part of the city. So, when the weather let me, I don't miss the chance to take a walk in the park at different times of the day. The walk I'm sharing today for the #wednesdaywalk, I took with my husband last Saturday.

We went for a walk in the afternoon and, although it was a bit cold, it wasn't raining, so without hesitation we walked towards the Parque El Virrey.

The streets near the park are very tree-lined.

This street caught my attention because of the pair of houses. In this area of the city most of those houses that I find so beautiful have disappeared giving their place to buildings.

We arrived at the park and it was getting late in the afternoon. It was quite quiet and less crowded than usual for a Saturday afternoon because last weekend was a long holiday in Colombia and people here usually take advantage of those weekends to get out of the city.

Still there were people walking their dogs, some resting and enjoying the afternoon in the park.

This park is an oasis of tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle of the city.

We walked around the park a few times and after a while we decided it was time to take a break and have a coffee.

ElVirrey170825_5.jpg

We went to a nearby cafe called Les Amis. I love this place because its decoration is like going to visit a friends house. The place is owned by Argentinians and is like a little coffee shop in San Telmo, Buenos Aires in Bogota.

We ordered a filtered coffee in French Press. It was an origin coffee from the Huila region.

LesAmis170825_2.jpg

I had an Argentine empanada with meat and olives and a pastrie with blueberries and pastry cream.

But the best was the cheese cake my husband ordered. I think it is the best cheesecake I have ever tasted, it had lemon and guanabana and it was super creamy.

So we ended our evening walk and went home happy and satisfied.

It's cold here almost year round, although this season is usually the coldest. We have to wear jumpers every day hehe ;)
But having the park nearby is wonderful.

Hello @coquicoin friend!!!.. A beautiful space, it reminds me a bit of our Caracas of the 70s and 80s when I used to go spend my school holidays and my aunt "Ligia" took me to "Parque los Caobos" and "Parque del Este" 🙏... My oldest son has lived in Bogotá for 5 years and he loves the city, one of these days maybe he will go and visit my son and my grandchildren, so maybe my son will stop telling them that his grandfather is some kind of "crazy Hermit who takes pictures in streets he decided never to leave" 😂... Beautiful post, I really liked seeing these photos, they transmit a pleasant feeling when I see them... And the last photos made me feel a terrible desire to eat something sweet, so I will go to my kitchen for a snack! 😂... Thanks for sharing and many blessings and greetings to you there!!!

Hola Jesus! I didn't know your eldest son lives in Bogota, that's great! I like the city, it can be chaotic, especially if you have to travel long distances because the traffic is hellish, but I try to walk and I like that I can do that here. El Virrey is not very big. There are bigger parks, but they're too far away, and I can walk to this one whenever I feel like it. You should come to visit your son and grandson, and I think you'll love to take street photos in La Candelaria in the downtown.
Saludos y bendiciones!

I enjoyed the entire walk you had on Saturday; even just walking those streets was so special to me. What a blessing that you're close to a place like this, and I hope it inspires many future posts, so you can give us a photo tour too, haha. Ending the afternoon with a coffee seems ideal, along with those empanadas you mentioned—so delicious. I'm happy you're okay. Even though we haven't met in person, you seem like someone with an aura worth embracing. Happy midweek my friend! 🙏

Gracias Jesus!
We owe each other a coffee to get to meet ;) in a month I have to go to Caracas, so let's try to arrange to meet if you are there :)
In the meantime I'll try to post about things around here, hehe.
Un gran abrazo, amigo!

Greetings Mam. The place seems to look so calm. The park is definitely too good as nature seems to quite favorable adding to the beauty of the lined up trees. Away from city, when you have a place to walk like this will definitely give a soothing effect. To make the walk complete, enjoying a hot cup of coffee with favorite delicacy will definitely make our day more sweet.

Did you eat your husband’s cake? You didn’t leave him a single bite. Hahaha… alright, alright… of course you did. You did well. A truly lovely place for a stroll, no doubt—and with a delicious ending!

Cheers! Y abrazo.

Having a park near where you are staying ? You are quite lucky!

That's the thing I've been complaining to my husband. Here in their hometown there is none. Even a small one so I could walk or let Caleb.

That ground with grasses was perfect for toddlers.

A park is very much needed. Especially with small children. Caleb would enjoy it a lot.
Hugs, and I hope you are well 😘

Wow that's such a lovely area with a really nice park to enjoy. Now I wish there's a nice park near me too. 😅 Mmm, the snacks you ordered all look yummy. The cheesecake is fascinating. I'd love to try that too. 😆 An advance happy weekend...
