Silver Bloggers Community is on My List

Hello friends, Hivers and of course my fellow Silver Bloggers. I'm writing this post in response to @lizelle post about the third anniversary of the Silver Bloggers Community. She has organized a special contest and all you have to do is tell about how you heard about Silver Bloggers, why you post there, and what keeps you coming back. To check out her blog about it click here.

I've heard of the Silver Bloggers Community pretty early on in my hive journey. When I was a newbie I was always involved with the #HPUD initiatives. One of them involved three lovely ladies (The Power of Three) which are also part of the leadership in this community. The three are @lizelle, @fionasfavourites and @coquicoin.

I ended up being selected for their delegations two months in a row. This was an incredible help to the beginning of my Hive journey due to not having much HP. I can't remember for sure but I eventually seen their connection to this community. At this point I had this community on my radar but at the time I didn't have anything on my mind to post to it.

I never got asked or had anybody recommend the community to me. I did run across someone who was just starting out in Hive about 6 months ago. A younger silver like me but a little younger 😊 One thing I noticed she was doing a lot of blogs to this community. It was me noticing this that made me decide to join and post in the community. I guess I seen a whole lot is accepted and can be posted here. So @asiaymalay your blogs had a good impact on me making my first post here.

So my first post to the community was about 5 months ago. In total I have made a handful of post here. My first post was just about my recent happenings. I later posted about some medical issues to include getting a tooth pulled, medical diagnosis, and getting ready for my first colonoscopy. These are things I generally don't post about but I already got a taste of the community engagement. I knew there would be people who could relate with me. I wasn't disappointed with that either.

So I mentioned going to the doctor and getting punched in the stomach in one post. I was diagnosed with a medical condition. I didn't expect to get a comment that really hit home to me, you will see soon why. I have only shared this with one other person on Hive but today I'm going to let the cat out of the bag and tell you a bit about it. You see I'm sharing a bit more here than I would in any other community I'm part of. A lot of the Silvers in this community have seen and been through a lot of life experiences. I just know someone can relate and that makes it easier for me to share what I'm about to.

I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and it was a great scare. My A1C was over 15 which is dangerously high. It didn't help the doctor giving me horror stories about two patients that had similar levels this high. Both were hospitalized and one of them is no longer with us. She also stated she was surprised I didn't have a heart attack or stroke. I was in funk and freaked out for awhile. I want to take this opportunity and state to see your doctor on those regular scheduled visits. I had a long lapse in between the last visit and maybe if I was on track this wouldn't have got as serious as it did.

Now my sugar levels are close to normal. I have changed my diet but I still enjoy some of the same foods I did previously. I just control the portion size and incorporate some type of exercise after eating. It's been a hard few months and I have also dealt with a lot of side effects with the medication I'm on.

Initially, the first three weeks, I was nauseous, had diarrhea, and had a bad case heartburn/indigestion. This all went away after awhile but I had another episode due to not being able to get my medication due to a worldwide shortage. I was off it for 26 days and I noticed a spike in my glucose levels.

Now the medication I'm on his called Mounjaro. The problem with the availability is due to its high demand. It's really the rich and some celebrities getting a hold of it due to its weight loss benefits. Even the mainstream population looks for ways to get it, I know because I have been approached by someone for some, smh. For someone that needs it for medical concerns this is all a bit frustrating.

The last three weeks I've went through the side affects of the medication again because of the break in usage. It really is a struggle to get it. I have to call several pharmacies to see who has it. I have finally got placed on waiting list with a few of them.

There are also some other things I'm going through that I need to have checked but I will share that at another time. Where might you ask? Of course it will be in this community.

Sharing life experiences good and bad is welcomed here. I feel like there are several silvers in this community that have either experienced or know someone that has been through similar life challenges. I totally love this about this community. So this a big part why I have shared here in the past and why I will continue in the future.

Take care, stay safe and let's move along with our life journeys. Until next time!

As I was about to smile upon reading your intro, it was suddenly wipe out of what comes next😐. So scary. But lucky that its already close to normal. So sad that this medication is out of stock and it's a struggle to get it. Don't have any alternative medicine while this one is still unavailable?

Well all the similar GLP once a week injections medication are low on stock. The only alternative is straight insulin. Insulin can be spendy and you may have to inject several times a day. I hate needles and I hope I never have to take it. The shot I take now is a pen so I don't see the needle. I just have to be careful I don't get to light weight wise or my doctor will take me off.

This means a lot. Looks like the silver bloggers community is one of the most welcoming ones we’ve got on the platform and I’d make sure to public some articles in the community.
Thanks for sharing

Many things in life, some good ones other less good.... unfortunately but we can deal with them in different ways, and share them here if we want or not, but if you do it as you did then you realize there are more people who are dealing with some similar experiences somehow.
Hope you are better and hope you feel great and in the meantime keep sharing any part of your journey!💖🙏😊

Thanks Amiga. I don't know if I would feel as comfortable posting elsewhere about these types of experiences. Perhaps someday you will find this community for an experience doesn't have to bad though, hehe. Take care and enjoy the rest of your week 😊

Oh my gosh 15 is so high, what a scare you must have had. I really appreciate you sharing this here. My AC1 levels have not been that high but I had a heart attack in late 2022, the doctors attributed it to Covid because it was caused by blood clots, but anyway I also have a heritage of heart disease from my father's side. And then when I did all the tests to find out if I have thrombophilia, the results were negative. The specialist did not rule out the covid effect but added that it would be because it was combined with my high blood glucose problem, at that time, I did not know I had it and I could have had a big rise in blood glucose and also hypertension.

I understand that it is not easy to get used to taking a medication and the side effects. I have suffered some although mild and I had to change my medication once because I developed an allergy after taking one for a year. But as we become aware that changing our eating habits and exercise can help us and we learn to control ourselves, the whole thing becomes more bearable. I'm a sweet tooth but I live without any craving for sweets and I think that is a great achievement. I like what I eat and I allow myself a treat from time to time but I try not to abuse it.

I hope you are feeling better and better everyday and thank you very much for sharing your case. It touches me very closely.

A hug and thanks for being part of Silver Bloggers.

Thank you...I almost revealed it back to you than but I wasn't ready at that time, hehe. You had a real serious threat. I'm glad your here today and I have someone that can relate to my condition.

I watch my levels closely and have gotten use to poking me finger to check it. I have to watch my weight because my doctor will take me off the medication if I lose too much weight. I don't want to inject insulin on a daily basis. This medication is just one shot a week. Plus it's pretty affordable with my insurance, $40 for a month supply. Insulin is expensive and I hope I don't have to find out how much that would cost.

It's great to be here in this community and I hope I can post more frequently here. Thank you for your detailed and caring message. Have a great day ahead 😊

I can also understand that you were not ready to tell. At first, I had my phase of stupor and denial, and I would ask myself questions like, how is it possible if I have never been overweight, or I don't eat so badly that I am diabetic and things like that. But once we assume the condition, I think we take the first step to fight the battle.

I lost weight with the first medication I took, dapagliflozin. I am a lot thinner but at some point, I have stayed at the same weight.

I hope neither of us gets to the point of needing insulin. And you know we're here for you. We'll keep in touch here.

Happy afternoon!

At first, I had my phase of stupor and denial, and I would ask myself questions like, how is it possible if I have never been overweight, or I don't eat so badly that I am diabetic and things like that.

Me too just a a little over a year prior to my diagnosis I was running 5-6 miles a day and on much of a healthy lifestyle. I got away from it and put on a few pounds but nothing that required me to buy a new wardrobe. Now my mother's side has three generations of diabetes so I'm content with it being in my genetics.

Oh yes no insulin, I hate needles.

I like how you end the post. Take care. As I read it, you have lots of struggles in terms of your health and I hope you will be better soon. 😊 I must be thankful to the people behind the community too because of them you learned to share some HP during HPUD and I was one of the newbies that been selected during May HPUD. Thank you. Looking forward to the positive news in terms of your health.😊

Thank you. The power of three is such a wonderful thing for newbies. I've learned here on Hive if you get help or aid it's always good to reciprocate to others when you are able to. My health is improving and I have adjusted to how I should go forward. Now I still eat some tasty foods I just have to eat smaller portions and not as often. Filipino foods still on the diet but not like they once were, haha

Yeah. I'm trying to do that ripple effect if I can get a chance too.😊 It's good to hear that you're improving. 😊 Soon, Filipino food will always on the list of your daily food.😁

Recently I joined Silver Bloggers community. Yes, we do have some great authors in this community, narrating their experience through their article. Good going. And hope you keep in good health. Fenugreek is a good medication for diabetes. Here in our country most people prefer this. You can check with your dr. if you wish to take this.

Fenugreek seed is a popular spice. The leaves of it are used as fresh as well as dried in most Indian foods.

Being able to share with others about worrisome things helps to alleviate some of the stress. Hearing from others who may have gone through the same thing and have come through it gives one hope that their condition can be dealt with.
I hope you are doing better.
Have a good weekend.

Thank you and your comment is point on 😊 We can't hold everything to ourselves. Sometimes we might share with a few while other times we let it all out there. Either way it does alleviate worries and stresses.

Thank you so much for your contribution to #silversurprise @coolmidwestguy. It does help tremendously sharing experiences with people who understand, having gone through similar challenges.
My hubby was a type 1 diabetic, so needed insulin injections from the age of 8, and the one thing that helped him tremendously was exercise. He had to inject lower dosages when exercising. I would encourage you to keep on exercising.
Take care, and have a great weekend.

Thank you for your kind words. Especially The background on your late husband. That information is valuable to me and thanks for the advice. I currently do some activity after everytime I eat because I want my glucose levels to be as close to normal when I check them . You take care as well and have splendid weekend.

Diabetes is a scary one, if you control properly not too much cheating on foods with medication hopefully you get this under control again. Annoying about that drug I have heard the Celebs who have money hoard it, not sure why!

Silver's is a wonderful place to share both positive and negative no matter problems being faced, great to meet you here and take care!

Thank you. Diabetes can get scary if you don't monitor it correctly. I was real fortunate nothing seriously happened to me despite my booming A1C numbers. Yeah those lazy Celebs and the rich that hoard it that use it for only weight loss got to blame their physicians for prescribing it also.

Yes I love the general thoughtfulness of this community. Some of things I have posted here I can't think of anywhere better to post them 😊 You take care as well..

Processed food linked to diabetes is where packaging should have big warnings, I cook everything in the home. Crazy world we live in, we simply have to adjust and go back to basics our parents taught us.
