More Murals

Hello friends and Hivians. Today, I share some more murals I checked out a few days ago. These were mostly caught on a leisure drive I took. Don't get me wrong, the main focus was checking on some murals I had previously seen. I will start with a big, well-known one here in Omaha, Nebraska.

This is what you would call a larger mural. It's 465 long by 70 feet tall. It's the largest and the most expensive mural in Omaha, Nebraska. Let me tell you that's equivalent to a full sized American football field. I had to find the right place to take a photo to capture most of it. I came here one morning and was unsuccessful because the morning sun would not allow. This was taken in the late afternoon.

The title of the mural is Fertile Ground and the artist is Meg Salignan. The project was started in June of 2008 and took a year to complete. This mural is on the east side of the NRG Energy Building located at the corner of 13th & Mike Fahey Street. Its location is located downtown adjacent from Charles Schwab Field, which is where they play the Men's College World Series of Baseball every year.

This mural captures Omaha's past, present and future. It really does represent different aspects of life in Omaha. A cool feature is that the passage of time is shown "from back to front" versuses "left to right." An interesting concept about this mural is the people are real. There were 46 photographs of them from accross the city that were used in the paintings. Some are common people while others are historic figures of the city. There is no distinct list that list them all or I could find anyways. There were some that I thought would be on there but weren't. Another time, I will show you some murals of prominent figures of Omaha.

There are several things I like about this mural. It's not the most important thing, but I like the old steam engine train on it. It's also neat to see a part of the Missouri River, which divides two cities (Omaha & Council Bluffs) and two states (Nebraska & Iowa). I noticed a few historical people on it, sure I'm missing some others. I also like how the artist incorporated individuals from the Native American tribes in the area that still have a presence even today. Another thing I found on it that I liked was a man in a military flight suit. The area has a vast military history attached to it. I could go on more about this one, but let's move on to some others.

Being a former member of the Armed Service and a current DoD employee, I just couldn't pass up photographing my country's flag. Both of these were a ways down 13th Street from the first one I showed you. These two are a couple of blocks separated from each other.

The first one is the very simple one of the two. No waving flag and not at all dimensial, but three simple colors make it, the Red, White and Blue! Ok a little national pride, why not.

The second one has a bit more detail and has veribage. I took two pictures because the eagle was hidden behind the vehicle. It's a bit warn but still has flavor. The veribage is the words to the Pledge of Allegiance. A nice way to honor the U.S. flag.

This one just almost makes it hard not to smile at. This one is very business related due to being on a building that does PC repair. Maybe they do other repair work, I dont know for sure, but the mural surely suggest so.

Yet another business mural that gives off some cool vibes. This is a mexican grill & chill bar located on Leavenworth Street in Omaha. Of the three characters, the pineapple is my favorite. Nice colors on this one and it represents the grill well. Maybe something similar for your cafe @jane1289 what you think?

This mural is located on the front of the Omaha Experience building near the Charles Schwab Field. I found it neat seeing all the baseball illustrations and words for baseball things. It was across the street from the first mural in this article.

I'm on a roll.with business murals aren't I? Now I'll snap a shot of a mural on any building but that doesnt mean I will go inside. The name of this business is Blue Door Salon and Spa. This place primarily caters to brides to be, hence why I will probably never enter it, hehe. Butterflies, constellations, birds, flowers and a disco ball are illustrated well together.

We all make mistakes and this is one of mine. In my last blog, I showed a mural of a street scene on a bar wall. Well, this is the other side of the building. There is nothing too fancy, but it is cool how this mural makes the building look like it is stone constructed. I simply didn't know it was the same building until now, haha. In my defense, I didn't take them consecutively..

Well, this wraps up murals from me for a while. I will surely share more because I love seeing and discovering them. They really do give light to the streets, don't they? I hope you enjoyed the few I shared today.

Take care, stay safe and be good. Until next time!

Whoaaaa, the first one's really massive and it's beautiful! I understand why its the most expensive especially with it's size. It's really cool when one building has murals in it. I like the first one but those with cute and cool type like that in a mexican grill & chill bar, also that PC repair. Love the theme of it. I don't see murals here in our small town so i'm kinda jealous that some places has them. Arts is really not that well know here in our town I guess.

Yes a large expensive mural but it tells so much. Too bad not any near you. Maybe you make a stamp on some wall with permission of course. It could even be anime characters. You could start something, haha.
