Hello happy Friday Hivers. Today is #marketfriday headed by no other than @dswigle. Today I bring you to the Durham Museum gift shop. I came here intially last Friday but I had to come back this Tuesday. I didn't get to see all the exhibits and didn't have time to check out the gift shop.

Pictured above is the gift shop in the 1940's at Omaha Union Station which is now Durham Museum. The second photo is the ticketing counter which looks very much like it did when it seen train passengers. No one is behind it handing out tickets but they are taking your payment in exchange for merchandise.

The first thing I seen first walking in the gift shop was post cards. I have to say I was surprised to see them reasonably priced at $0.50. The subject matter was mostly kind of boring to me but I'm from here. There were a few that I found cool though. This was a good sign though seeing something not so expensive. I just might walk out of here with something.

Some little things here. Pencils and shot glass coasters are a dollar. Some Christmas ornaments sell from $6.50 to $10.99. Key chains sold for $5.99.

Not gift shop related but here is a photo of a Christmas tree standing in the Union Station in 1940s. Every year they still do this tradition. It's an amazing display I can't wait to take some pictures of it this upcoming holuday season.

Some reading material about Omaha will cost you $21.99. If you want a keep sake for your visit to Durham Museum you can get a shot glass for $6.99. If they would have had big black steam engine train on one I would have considered. Well since it was local stuff I kept walking.

Oh the first stop where I seen something I may want. Lunch boxes that are tin made. I guess they still sell them @anggreklestari well at least here. All of them except for one model were the same price. Of course the one I was eye balling was more, sigh. The price was $21.99 for all the rest. The one I wanted was the silver food truck but they wanted $32.99. I would have paid $21.99 for it but not $32.99. I may have to do some searching on the internet maybe I can find one.

What boy didn't want a train set for Christmas? There were a few here for sale. They weren't massive ones but you did have a choice of color and style. Basically the beginners set for young boys. I think
the $65.00 sticker price might be a little high. It probably takes up very little floor space.

IMG_20230725_130355579.jpg

The T-shirts they had were reasonable priced. They were priced by size starting at $11.99, Once they reached Large they were $2.00 more for each size after. Not a bad price usually T-shirts are around $15. They only two choices and the one pictured was the better of the two. It would have been nice to see more shirt selections. The dinosaur theme I believe was from a temporary exhibit that is no longer there.

IMG_20230725_124854073.jpg

Legos were here for the kids. Starting at $20 all the way to $46. Seemed a little steep to me but I haven't been into buying for grade school kids for awhile. It is a good choice of merchandise as there currently is a Lego exhibit.

IMG_20230725_130221920.jpg

Here we have some train related toys. The his and her train conductor hats are $11.99 each. The name train letters I believe we're $4 each. You have a short name it's not to bad I guess. It would be $12 for me as a Bob 😂

This book area I looked at twice. Most of the soft covered books were priced at $21.99. The hard covered ones went from $25 to $65. The thing that got me here was some of the books were local specific to Native Tribes and Trains. Two things I have a lot of interest in. There was a handful of them I was interested in but it came down to two. I went with Railroads of Omaha and Council bluffs.

I have opened it up and read through it some. So many pictures of trains, stations, and shipyards. I've learned some things about the area that I didn't know. I haven't even bothered to mark where I left off because it's ok seeing and reading over. I love my choice but I will probably get the other book at some point.

Thank you for coming this far. I really appreciate your time and support. Take care,be safe and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

$65 sticker price is so high. Even every price like shirts you have mentioned are high for us.

Some things were high and that's because it's a gift shop. I tell you the shirts are reasonably priced for the market here. Usually there $15-$20 or more at venues or other gift shops.

Hmm, a bit pricey but it's okay if the quality is good, especially for container food material have to be safe for food

Maybe the online stuff is cheaper?

Yes the books were right at market value. Nothing wrong with used or copies of books. They both feed the brain the same. There's a few places here that have book shares. Drop yours off and take another. The selections are limited but sometimes you find some good reads.

It's a pretty cool looking shirt. I wish they had the dinosaur exhibit going on. I'll show some dinosaur bones in the future though :)

Ohooo, a lot of products in there, and they are a little bit, just a little bit pricey I think. Or maybe it is just to me because I always want a cheaper product and even ask for a discount, lol.

It seems nothing is really affordable these days, right? A sad reality that some things here were at or close to market. Still nice to see. I didn't show plates and dinner 🍽️ stuff there. They were insanely priced.

The T-shirts would be cool and of course, who doesn't love Legos? I love your thumbnail of the original Union Station and how they have kept it original and even make good use of it.

I think I asked about a season pass and I hope that they do have one, it is places like this that I can go back and back... Do you know how many times I have been to the Smithsonian??

I know we have talked about the overpricing of things and how expensive it all seems. Everything is going up and it is across the board. It is a domino effect. The books! I have to say, I am addicted to books and if they have big glossies in them, even better!

You have done a great job in this vein! I hope you do it again! Thanks for taking us along!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday

Oh yes they have season passes. They rotate out exhibits every few months so it would be worth it. I would love to visit the Smithsonian someday.

Thanks for your appreciation and support. Yes your initiative is a good thing to bring us all together. People will bond together despite their differences as long as there as common ground and respect. If only greed didn't run the minds of some world leaders and politicians it would be a more peaceful world. I know I have met some people from different countries whose governments don't get along with ours but they are good people. Sometimes these leaders (lack of) draw conclusions and paint the wrong picture that everyone is the same in a given country.

It's always a pleasure hearing your thoughtful words. Have a great week ahead and hope to be back again soon for #MarketFriday

Exactly! There are people that I have known most of my life and they live a world away. We can talk back and forth all day long on here with people that do not like our leaders... but, they are respectful of our thoughts and words and don't judge us for our government.

The world would be a more peaceful place if world leaders would be at the front of the line when they go to war with each other. Methinks there would be no war.

Right back at you! I love hearing your thoughts and words... I figure it is the Red, White and Blue you bleed. ;)

Come back soon! :)
