Beware the smoke,it may be hiding a burning issue

Cindy has always loved her space a lot; she doesn't like people in her space at all, but she is a free-spirited girl and equally carefree. So when Cynthia got admission, she decided to stay alone in her small room. One day in her final year, her coursemate walked up to her and said

Hi Cindy, mind if I take some minutes of your time?
Cindy was surprised cause Joyce wasn't really a close friend but just a coursemate.
Cindy:hi Joyce, yes what's up
Joyce: I know we are not real best of friends but I need your help on an urgent matter.
Cindy; (looking at Joyce suspiciously, as if she is about to prank her but she looked serious) Okay, what's the problem
Joyce: I am homeless; as I am talking to you now, I have nowhere to put my head this night like this.
Cindy: what happened to your house, if I remember correctly, you live alone
Joyce: The compound I was staying in was sold, and we were given three weeks to pack out or be thrown out.

Cindy was quiet for a while, then she said Joyce, I honestly don't need anybody in my house; I don't have the strength for any kind of trouble, but before she finished her statement, Joyce knelt and begged her to help her out. Cindy, not knowing what to do, being a kind-hearted girl, accepted Joyce to live with her.
After the day's lecture, on her way home. She told her friend Susan.

Susan, Joyce asked me to accommodate her
Susan; let me guess you agreed
Cindy: yes
Susan: Cindy, I don't think this a good idea. Joyce is a cunning person; forget that she always pretends to be quiet; when she strikes, it will look like a tornado hit you.
Cindy burst out laughing, Haba! Susan, she can't be that bad, and which one is a tornado again na hurricane?
Susan: Cindy, I have told you that girl is bad news; if you must live with her, you must be very careful. The kind of story that is flying around about her on campus is not good.
Cindy told Susan not to worry that she would be fine. People say bad things about someone they don't understand.
Susan: I heard she is very secretive and stingy before you ask who told me. It is her close friend. Come to think of it, why didn't she ask for help from her friends? There is no smoke without fire

Cindy said some smoke was a false alarm and that she didn't know why she didn't ask her friends, but she had already agreed to help her, and she couldn't change now.

Cindy and Joyce started living together. Cindy had enough foodstuff at home, so nothing was lacking. After four months of living together.
Cindy started noticing that anytime she travels, her stuff will always seem as if it's about to finish.
When she asks Joyce, she will say she doesn't know. Sometimes, the waste bin that she cleared before traveling will be again with plantain, different food condiments sachets, and egg peels.
Anytime she is coming back from traveling, she will always tell Joyce.

One day, a neighbor called Madam Chizzy told her that Joyce was looking pregnant, but Cindy laughed that it was not possible as Joyce was a virgin and didn't even have a boyfriend.
Madam Chizzy: I don't know what Joyce told you, but she is always bringing a guy to your house anytime you travel. And I have overheard you guys quarrel about her not always bringing money for cooking; she cooks anytime you are not around. Try to be observant. I repeat your roommate is pregnant.
Cindy says okay, maa.

Cindy waved it as mere gossip, but curiosity made her start taking notice; she noticed that since Joyce came, she had never seen her period before, and she had money, unlike the pity story she told her about her family. So she decided to ask Joyce
Cindy; and Joyce sorry to ask but have you seen your period this month
Joyce; No, I have an infection that am treating that why
Cindy ;okay
Cindy traveled again but this time refused to tell Joyce when she was coming back; unknown to Joyce, Cindy had changed the keys and pretended as if the keys were given to her by the landlord. Only for Cindy to come and meet Joyce with a guy that she calls church brother naked in her house.

He greeted and went outside when the guy left.
Cindy gave Joyce a stern warning never to bring any guy to her house next time, or she would pack out.
Three days later, on a weekend, Cindy and some neighbors were outside when Joyce left that she wanted to get something in the market, only to come back shouting her stomach was paining her and all effort by Cindy to find out what she ate or drink prove abortive as Joyce kept lying that it was just the food
Cindy gave her that's what she had eaten. Cindy was confused as she ate the same food, but she was fine
Before you know it, Joyce was bleeding badly, and Cindy had to shout for help. It turns out that Joyce had an abortion that day, that abortion almost took her life and nothing was wrong with her house.

She ran away from her house because she duped someone and didn't want the guy to know where she was. Cindy was devastated because if Joyce had died, she would be in jail because nobody would believe she wasn't aware of the pregnancy at the same time, Joyce was making it look as if Cindy poisoned her by saying that it was Cindy's food that she ate that is disturbing her when everybody was asking what she ate as she held her stomach. Susan and her neighbors consoled Cindy, and Cindy said indeed, there is no smoke without fire. If only I had listened to all the warnings and signs. Cindy asked Joyce to leave her house.
As I listen to Cindy story, I decided that I won't have any room mates at all
