A sweet holiday
Every time it gets to that time of the year when people have time to rest from all the hustle and bustling of the year, I feel very excited.
In my former workplace, the festive period was usually not a happy time for me because even on the 25th of Christmas, I was still at work; I so much hated that job cause I had no leave and no rest from year to year, and you are working without a moment of rest. Even in the new year, we are still at work; after the new year, they will give you just 2 days off, and that's if an emergency doesn't come up, that will cut your already short holidays short.
The only thing my boss does is to give you a 5 thousand naira bonus, which is for all of you struggling to lift the company to the next level. Yet if you fall sick for a longer period, you are removed immediately without prior notice.
So you can imagine my joy when I get a new job that lets you enjoy the festive period to the fullest.
For this holiday, I have missed my hometown, I can't wait to be there. What actually gives me joy about this holiday period is the fact I get to meet all my cousins that I haven't seen in years
Those outside the country, the ones in Lagos and Abuja, are all coming back. I have already traveled home during the weekend to see if there is a place that needs renovation in the house.
Before the time we are to travel, I will make a short trip. First, I will visit the Bonny Kingdom, I have heard so many beautiful things about that place, but the single thought of crossing that ocean always makes me change my mind about visiting the place.
So this festive period, my friends and I have decided to take a trip to Bonny from there, since there is a better alternative, from there we will be heading to my hometown. I can't wait to have fun. Cause I know it's going to be massive.
I intend to cook something new for the family apart from the regular rice and stew. I want everybody to try the chef's new recipe this period.
Anyway, I have always been the cook, so the kitchen is mine to explore. I will take this time to explore other villages around me and learn more history about my home town. As for the new year, it is time to build my empire; I have delayed it enough, but I will gather my team, so we can start work.
One thing I miss about going to the village is FOOD, not regular food. I can't wait to eat well-peppered smoked fish, dry fish, and chill palm wine by the seaside. I easily get cold, but I have warned my body to respect itself cause I need to enjoy the ocean breeze that comes in the early morning and cool evening. That hot pancake, hot fresh fish pepper soup with yam and red oil.
