Zero to Something

Sometimes starting is the hardest part. We overanalyze, we overthink, we overplan; then we end up talking ourselves out of doing the one thing that can completely change our lives: starting. I finally realized that it is way better to start something, even if it is small and possibly uncertain, than staying stuck doing absolutely nothing. This is the decision I made for myself: to dedicate an hour or two each day towards learning something new...something that can impact my future.

It was not easy. No, that's an understatement. I decided to learn trading skills, which was an entirely new world to me and it was confusing and overwhelming. The charts, the technical jargon, the different strategies; wow, there was so much information. I kept forgetting concepts and couldn't remember when or how to apply certain strategies. There were days when I honestly thought maybe this forex thing just wasn't for me.

But through all the mess and confusion with what I was learning, I showed up. I said to myself one more video, one more hour, one more note taken. And the more consistent I was, the more clarity I started to receive. At the same time, I was learning video editing. I was drawn to the creative aspect of it. But, like trading, it wasn't easy. The tools, the shortcuts, the effects; visually everything looked simple, until I attempted to practise.

My first few edits ended up being frustrating. I doubted myself a lot. But, like before, I kept working at it. I was not consistent in my work, but I was persistent. Here is what I have learned. Starting with nothing is not a liability. It is the beginning of something powerful. When you start with nothing, the only direction is up. Anything you gained in the process (knowledge, experience, skill, etc.) is growth. You will not notice it on a daily basis, but if you stick with it, you will eventually look back and realize you have improved a lot.

I love listening to business leaders and there is a common trend in their stories, and it is not only the outcome of success. The reality is, they all started from nothing. For most of them i have listened to they has no money, no connections and nothing. Just an idea, some consistency, and the determination to push ahead. The truth is, you may not be ready until everything is ready. Business is about taking a step, or building something from what you have, and then adapting and learning.

That is what kind of mindset I am developing. Start from nothing, and keep moving. If you are feeling stuck, unsure, or overwhelmed, please know that is normal. Beginning a new journey rarely feels clean, or clear. But even if it is messy, just start. Take a few minutes to learn something, mess it up, learn again, and mess it up again. Whether it is business or something altogether different, the journey to betterment rarely feels instant. You will never have it all figured, and that is okay. Just focus on doing what you can. From zero to something, that is where I am going.
