Making Real Change

It hasn’t been an easy road to bring clean water to underserved communities, but honestly, it has certainly been one of the most rewarding paths we’ve ever taken. With the Hive Empowers Communities project, we have now completed boreholes—20 in total, each one creating a change in the daily lives of people who had struggled to find safe water in the past.

Getting to those communities often meant long hours on bumpy, dusty roads. Sometimes we had no choice but to leave our vehicles behind and walk to the people. However, when you know that communities are relying on you for such an essential part of their life as water, every one of those steps was completely worth it.

Some of the villages we visited were fairly remote, and so even the logistics of getting materials to build the borehole became a challenge. Yet we kept on going. We met with the local leaders, listened to their issues and we planned. Of course, it took a substantial number of meetings, adjustments in plans, and a hands-on approach with engineers, team to create every borehole that worked.

We certainly had some challenges, which was particularly common in regions where the land was too dry or where groundwater was difficult to reach or extract. Drilling in regions like these demanded extra time and effort from everyone involved. However, when things got difficult, we simply reminded ourselves of the real reason we started this work in the first place and that is to assist communities who had limited options but to rely on unsafe water sources for drinking water or would walk for miles each and every day to collect drinking water.

I always remember one of our journeys where we have to reach a remote village with inaccessible road.. The road that we had to take to get there was all but impossible. We had to walk for hours in the hot sun just to reach the people. It became clear to us that they were experiencing a real crisis because of some of these situations. This and many more reasons inspired as to keep up reaching out and helping in ways possible.

When we finally finished the first borehole and opened it for the first time, there were no words to describe the emotional moment. There were wide smiles as people were filling their buckets with water. Their expressions conveyed joy, relief and gratitude. At this moment, it wasn’t just water, it was a new beginning.

All of the 20 boreholes are about more than being a construction project, they are a message of hope that demonstrates what is possible when a community like Hive, comes together to make a difference. This is solid proof that real impact can come from real people who care, that it isn’t just big organizations who can make a difference, it can be real people working with love and intent.

Hive has demonstrated that blockchain is not only for technology or finance, it is also a platform to solve real challenges within the real world. If it had not been for the support of Hive, i know that none of this would have been possible.
But this is just the beginning.

There are other communities waiting on clean drinking water that live in underprivileged communities, we can't reach and serve all but those who have reached is indeed great endeavor we have made, a lasting impact we have made. We are motivated to keep going. Because we have seen what the change can look like. Where clean drinking water flows; hope flows. And with Hive, the flow has never been greater.
