Crypto hacking, usually a one-way street, just took an unexpected turn. The thieves responsible for a massive $20 million hack on U.S. government wallets gave back nearly all of it. That’s right, 88% of the stolen funds were returned. Hackers don’t typically have a sudden change of heart, especially after targeting the government.
Were they spooked, or was this some weird “proof of skill” moment? Some speculate they feared the inevitable government crackdown, which isn’t a far-fetched thought considering how aggressively authorities have pursued crypto criminals. Just recently, federal agents arrested someone over a Bitcoin ETF scam, and charges continue to stack against crypto wrongdoers.
