Travel Budget

Who doesn't like to travel, if you ask 99% people will say that they would like to travel the world if they have unlimited money. And to be honest travelling helps you to live your life fully as well as stress free. Like travelling can be a stress buster or travelling can help you to regenerate or re-energize yourself.

But the problem lot of traveller's face as well as me too that is going out of budget while travelling. For example, we ask complete the trip in X amount but end up spending around Y which is more than X. Actual problem is when you create the budget you tend to create it by looking at the prices from the top but again there are so many trivial expenses which adds up to the expenses. Basically when you visit places, you try to explore all the things and thus your budget goes up.

Some times the budget goes upto 1.5x to 2x our estimated budget. I know keeping a buffer is always good but that buffer is also should be well thought of and nor should be exorbitant. The problem is when the budget goes up we cannot buy some other things or do any other things while travelling or in the following month as there is cash crunch.

I think I usually do the budget and try to find out the amount which is needed and also kept some buffer but sometimes all the planning does not go as planned and you usually have to shed some extra money. I remember one instance where our bus broke down before starting the journey and we have to buy another bus ticket which was 2x the previous amount. This was not in our control but still we went above our budget. Along with that when there is some experience which is not well thought of while doing the budget but looking at it you thought of doing it which again shoots up the budget.

So it is so much necessary to keep yourself in budget while travelling, but you can go little over the budget too. This is because it actually affects our later months if someone is living paycheck to paycheck. For us what we usually do is we allocate some amount every month to the vacation budget and thus we spend from that. We take those many vacations in a year, which is allowed from that allocated money. If we have gone above the budget, we reduce the number of vacations. In that way even if we go above the budget, we know we can compensate the following vacation by taking a small vacation or not taking at all.

Taking loans and doing holidays are a big no because that actually makes your financials miserable. Save it first and then do your holidays as much as you want.
