Investing in Silver & Gold

avatar

In India we usually buy Silver or Gold for some occasion. Like for marriage, kids born and other occasion. Now the problem with this approach is that when the price of Gold and Silver goes up then buying becomes costly. So if someone's marriage is coming up in some days, if they are going to buy now then it's a problem because the prices Re quite high.

And that's why investing small every week helps in this case. In India, we haveyearly festivals like the Dhanteras and other festivals where you buy the Gold or Silver and this is done so that you will have the metal when needed. So just like yearly purchase, people can buy weekly with small amount and average your buy.

The problem is that, people usually say that the prices are quite high but if you are buying every week you are averaging ot out. So doesn't matter if its go up and down eventually it will go up in the future. And when there is uncertainty in the market then these metals shine like anything.

So if you are also planning to buy the Gold and Silver and think it's quite high, start buying through the ETF and buy it everyday or everyweek so that you can average your buy.

And the next entrant in this is Copper. In India you don't have the copper etf whereas in US market we have the copper etf so if you want to invest on copper you can buy through the US ETF. Because I feel since the electricity usage will be higher going forward we need copper and silver and thus buying now is good for the future.

I do purchase gold EFTs not on a weekly basis but on the monthly basis. I also read somewhere that if you don't have enough money to buy gold, you can buy ETFs and that is equally profitable.

I live in Canada, I did the research and started buying both gold and silver coins on almost a monthly basis starting about 12 years ago. I earn the wage of a Practical Nurse. This was when prices were affordable. Now it is a challenge to continue but I keep it up as best I can. I do buy into PHYS and PSLV ETFs as a convenient way of exposing my other investment funds to, however these do involve a degree of counter party risk and have certain conditions the investor must be aware of.
