The Influence Of Leaders on Their subjects

As humans, one thing we all have to accept is that life isn't fair and never will be but complaining about it won't foster any reasonable change either. Every country on earth has some sort of leader who the citizens hand over power to willingly or unwillingly to make decisions for them because of their positions. There are over 195 countries in the world and over 90% of them practice a system where the citizens possess the power to choose who gets to rule over them (even though some of these leaders cheat and manipulate their way into office). The remaining statistics consist of religious, military and monarchical leaders who either force their way, accepted based on traditions, charisma or spirituality. Bottom line is no state can exist without some sort of public figure calling the shots on affairs that affects the entire state. Having established the necessity of leaders in the world, it is safe to properly address the question of " should citizens of a country be made to suffer for the decisions of their leaders?".

Leaders are seen as representatives of a country and all its people. In the international system, it is impossible for every citizen of a country to stand for the state at the same time. Since these countries have rulers, they stand for the people with the idea of having the best interest of their subjects at hand so whatever decision they make or do not make at all affects the people. Sometimes the decisions of a ruler not only affects his country but others as well especially in terms of International economic relations or even war. Let's take the case of the conflict between Russian and Ukraine into consideration. Vladimir Putin the President of Russian invaded the territories of Ukraine with the objective of conquest in mind. Now citizens of Russian are forced into war under the directives of their leader whether they want to or not and Ukraine on the other hand have to protect themselves from this external threat. See how the decision of one ruler not only affects one but two nations simultaneously.

Without even going to far, my country Nigeria as a case study speaks about the repercussions of leadership. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inherited the problems of insecurity from his predecessor. Ever since His Excellency came into office it has been one problem after another ranging from banditry to kidnapping. His reluctance to properly address this plague continues to wreck the country, destroying both lives and properties thus his decision not to decide affects the citizens because he is directly in charge of their well-being.

This topic has nothing to do with fairness, citizens will always be affected by the decisions of their leaders whether they want to or not. If his actions are positive then the people enjoy but if it is the opposite, then I guess they are in for a long ride. With that being said the presidents choices will influence the lives of his subjects unless they decide to overthrow the existing power and take matters into their own hands...
Thank you
