The Dangers associated with Teenage Rebellion
Meta AI
There's just something about teenagers that's closely attached to being rebellious. Sometimes even the most conformist kid will develop a tendency to lash out at adults (especially parents) with the obvious false narrative that they are much older now and absolutely know what's best for them. It usually pushes them to constantly lock heads with people who disagree with their methods and if you look close enough, teenagers prefer to take advice from their peers or kids within their age grade than experienced adults with usually leads them to err.
I was no different as a teen and this made a pain in the butt to my mother right from the moment I turned 14. I left the house really early at dawn after taking breakfast and came back home extremely late. Even with the numerous punishments and disciplinary reactions from my dad, my mind was already set on having my way and building a tougher skin to tolerate their sanctions.
This continued for quite sometime until something happened that completely shaped my way of life.
It was a holiday back then in High school, a classmate (George) promised to lend my close friend and I his videogame console with the cartridges and the only thing we had to do was come over to his place to collect it ourselves. My friend ( Sadiq) and left home by exactly 1 pm on a Sunday afternoon, the exact time we were certain he would be at home. His house was quit far but for the love of gaming we used our 44 leg power for the journey. On our way there we passed a river with kids splashing in it and decided we would stop by to participate in the fun on our way back.

When we finally got to the place, we found George talking to his younger sister right outside the house and immediately told him the reason for our visit. He kept giving it silly excuses and at that juncture we knew we were definitely going back home empty🤣🤣🤣. Angered by what felt like a cold hearted betrayal, Sadiq and I stormed out of the place to go lament back at home. We were still complaining about what our George did to us when we get to the location of the river again, this time it was completely deserted. I suggested we go for a swim just like we planned earlier as it would also help us cool off.
Mind you, both Sadiq and I were not that good swimmers but we thought the river was shallow this would not pose a problem to us..... How wrong we were. A few minutes in the middle of the river, I slipped dragging Sadiq down with me in a desperate attempt to save myself. We both kept struggling, shouting for help and might have died but by some miracle, pushed ourselves to the river bank helping each other out of an impending doom. The near death experience rearranged my brain and I actually sobbed quietly to the thought of dying in an unknown area and my parents finding my lifeless corpse after days of searching.
I went back home that day late as usual but this time with an honest apology, promising my old lady never to cause her trouble ever again. It is even safe to say that that very experience also contributed to introverted lifestyle making it hard to relate to people in the future.
After 8 years keeping the whole scenario to myself, I finally told my mother about what happened that day on our way back home from a wedding. The driver had decided to take another route when he found out that was massive traffic jam ahead and coincidentally, the detour happened to be within the scene of our of misadventure. My mother was shocked by the story but glad I did not learn my lesson from beyond the grave. Till this day, that story remains a reminder to always control myself and refrain from impulsive actions that will not hurt me but also lead to long lasting damage....
Thank you.
