Surprise Gifts From Friends are Heavenly

Has someone ever done something nice for you without even asking??. Do you have friends who just listen to you talk and realize how much this would mean to you if it comes as a surprise? How did you feel at that moment and how did you react? I have been in such position just thrice my whole life and each time felt like a heavenly moment. However the one that will also hold a special place in my heart has to be my very first, 5 years ago during the second semester as an undergraduate.
As a broke student who was still trying to understand school life,I was really struggling to balance academics, social life and most importantly my finances which seemed to always be at the mercy of the first two. I had very few friends then as I still pretty introverted then and also believed fewer friends would also limit unnecessary interactions. People who knew me well were quite aware of my deep affection for beans as it was my favourite meal ( I did mention it quite a lot) and would also make sure to resume with a large portion yet it was also the first to finish because of how often I prepared it.

Due to the COVID 19 and 2020 ASUU strike, the second semester of my first year was exceptional long and I ran through the beans I came with before we even got to the middle of the semester meaning I was not going to eat any beans till I get back home as I was very low on funds to restock😞😞. The semester was already feeling like hell and I complained about how much I craved beans pudding whenever I got the opportunity which wasn't enough because I rarely talked within the clique. This continued for weeks until Lizzy the only female in the group then travelled back home for her sister's wedding. Her intention was to spend a week at home before rushing back to school but because she was having a test a few days later, her break was cut short and came back three days after the wedding.
The day she was supposed to travel back to school, she called me and ask if I had classes by noon with response being "Yes". By 12 on a Tuesday afternoon she was already in Lafia and to my greatest surprise she was standing right in front of the lecture room with a black bag. The moment I came outside, she handed me the bag and told me it was filled with the beans I was craving for. I was dumbstruck, this was the first time I was receiving a gift in years and the first time getting a surprise present from a lady. I was overwhelmed by my emotions and the only reason I did not go down on my knees to propose was because I had no ring with me.

That day still rings bells in my head and anytime I think I about it, I find myself smiling because I never thought I'd make such a good friend at such phase of my life. Lizzy and I still very good friends till this very day and i still remind about that beautiful act of kindness she displayed back then.
No matter what happens or what ever you are going through, having people who care about you and have your best interest at heart really helps lighten the load. Thanks to Lizzy I had enough beans to last the rest of the semester. It was really a day worth remembering forever.
