I never knew what it felt like to have a mentor until I was 19. His name was Christopher but everybody called him Sir White because he was light-skinned. Sir white barely possessed any positive character but I still looked up to him because of his care spirit and ability to allows speak his truth even when it won't always go his way.
Mr Christopher knows I loved being around him especially when he bantered with customers or friends. His words were venomous and sometimes I wondered what was so special about him that customers would always come back to his store despite being rude to them. One of the moments I will never forget was when he fought a married woman over a toothpick. Sir white's love for toothpicks is beyond normal as it was always between his lips even while he was asleep.
What had happened that day was that he saw the lady with packs of toothpicks, asked her for some and she refused to give him any. He insulted her for her stinginess and she returned the favor. Thinking she was alone he slapped and she reciprocated resulting in a full on fist fight. Her friends who also came to the market about 6 of them ganged up on him and gave him the beating of his life. He ran back home in shame that evening only to return a week later.
The whole incident did not make me see him any less instead I adored him even more as he still remained the clown I always admired ready to make me laugh without planning for it.
