Real Heroes Don't Need Capes To save The Day

Getting help from strangers one one of life's rarest phenomenon especially in today's society. This is because we are currently in an era where a huge percentage of the human population do things for people with their fixated on some sort of reward which could be financially or otherwise. In a world where every intention prioritize returns, when a random stranger offers to help just for kindness sake, gestures like this do not only need to be praised but also publicized to show that there is still hope for humanity. As rare as this type of things are it is almost scarce amongst the male sex. This is because society views men as being I dependent and being able to handle life's turbulence by themselves. People will prefer to help a woman for no good reason even when it is obvious that a man needs that assistance even more and sadly there is nothing much we can do to balance this out.

There have been cases where a stranger I never knew has helped me out of uncomfortable situations. Sometimes these good Samaritans will just offer me assistance and leave without even waiting for a thank you from my end. For someone who constantly doubts the existence of fate or destiny, when I reminisce over past encounters I can't help but wonder if I have been preaching the wrong sermon. Out of the numerous good acts that have transpired in my life, there's one that stays fresh in my mind the most even though it happened a long time ago.

A long time ago when I was still a pre-teen (9 years old), I was home alone with my little brother because we both told our mom we'd stay at home to watch cartoons while we wait for our older siblings to return back home as there was almost nothing to do in the market other than sit and watch people buy and sell. It was a Friday so our mom knew the other kids would be back home early from school so she allowed it with clear instructions not to go outside or allow any strangers into the house for any reason. I agreed to her conditions and since she left some food in the house I concluded nothing would go south but I was deeply mistakened. Barely three hours after Mom went to her shop in the market, my little brother started crying that I should to take him to see her and because I was already tired of his drama I gave in to his demands.

We left for the market right after I was certain the door was locked and the key was hidden in a place where my siblings could easily locate it when they return back from school. After a few minutes of trekking, we stood opposite the main market gate with s huge problem on our hands..... There was a very busy road right in front of us and I did not trust myself completely to cross it with 6 year old. We waited and waited hoping someone would help us through but it seemed like everyone around was too busy to help two youngsters. Just when it seemed like all hope was lost and we were about risking it all, a good Samaritan stopped us offering to help us through our dilemma. Not only did he cross the road with us, he also insisted to take us to our final destination which was our mother's shop. This young man who did not look a day over thirty sacrificed his time and energy for two strangers he barely knew. The moment we got to where my old lady trades, he just handed us over after greeting her and left even before she can properly thank him. We never saw him since then but I never forget, this is a story that made me believe in the goodness of people till this very day. To our listeners, the man was just someone with a good heart but to my brother and I, he was that Hero that came through in our time of need...
Thank you.
