Highlander: An Eternity Of Vengeance

Greetings mi familia, welcome to my blog on The Anime Realm community. Today I'll be recommending an anime film so intriguing that even anime haters can't help but awe at its beauty. It is a story of revenge, pain, immortality, power and loss. A story of two immortals fighting throughout time to produce one winner. Ladies and gentlemen , I give you HIGHLANDER.

The movie tells the story of Colin Macleod, a warrior from ancient Britain living peacefully with his people and wife Moya. However his whole world comes crumbling when a Ruthless Roman dictator Marcus Octavius invades his village, destroys it and murders his wife. Colin who was apparently killed during the attack wakes to realize, he is still in the land of the living.

He is approached by an old immortal druid who provides him clarity to why he is still alive - immortality. The druid further explains that there other immortal individuals in the world which Marcus happens to be one as well. These unique individuals are destined to engage in an all out battle with just a sole survivor to claim the reward.

Colin who is still in pains from his loss, cares nothing about the epic battle or the prize that comes with victory. All he wants at this point is to find the man responsible for his current predicament and get his revenge. He begins his never ending journey, starting with training and honing the necessary skills to take down his enemy. Colin continues to chase after Marcus who is always an authoritarian through centuries.

Their battles rages on through time with Marcus gaining the upper hand at every encounter. This continues until the present becomes a wasteland controlled by Marcus with an iron fist.

The tyrant rules the people of America from an imposing tower while the rest of humanity cowers underground forces to either submit or die. The people form a resistance to overthrow this dictatorial regime but have little results to show for their efforts. During one of the confrontations between Marcus's soldiers and the rebellion, Colin storms into the city to complete his mission. His presence gives the resistance the upper hand for the first time but he ends up losing to Marcus again. He escapes Marcus's stronghold and joins forces with the rebels as their interests align. The rebels are made up of oldies, woman and even children.

A beautiful lady by the name Dahlia is able to chip at Colin's cold heart and the two become intimate. Realizing that Marcus's end game is to wipe out all of humanity, the Colin and the resistance band together to put a stop to his plans permanently. The hero confronts the villain for one last epic showdown and this time comes out victorious after beheading him. This releases a massive energy blast, putting a stop to Marcus's plan of Mankind eradication together with their century long battle.

After the battle, Colin is now free from the endless torment he endured for years. He has finally avenged his family, friends, loved ones, wife and the entire world. The movie ends with the glimpse of hope for humanity because the future will be built on freedom and peace.
The anime is truly an enjoyable piece of work and I recommend it to whoever hasn't seen it before. Overall I give it a solid 8.5 as it is more than just a story of revenge but a philosophical journey of a man who has lost everything trying to find his purpose.
