Even Tuesdays Have Stories To Tell

Something really crazy happened today that had me wondering if Nigeria is truly a country or just a place created to produce non-stop content. If it is not leaders exploiting the masses, it is the very same security agencies created to protect civilians putting their lives at risk. No wonder a lot of people have come to the conclusion that there is no saving this country and the only way to truly protect yourself is to acquire enough financial independence to leave this country.

So today after I had closed from work, I decided to stop by a friend's workplace which happens to be a motel. When I got there the environment seemed way too rowdy than it usually is and the noise alone made it seem like the people there were at the brink of displaying World War 3. I searched for my friend for a while until I finally found right in the middle of the commotion trying to unsuccessfully deescalate the problem. Amused by the scene right in front of me, I inquired about the entire story and my friend did not disappoint.

Apparently the three men on all black were police officers who just waltzed into the establishment unannounced and without so much as a reason or warrant, they forced their way into every room in the motel dragging every occupant out with them. They arrested every customer there without giving any logical reason for their actions and insisting that they must all go to the police station else they shot them in broad daylight. One of the guests who was having a good time with his partner dared to ask why he was facing such injustice but the only response he got was that he was supposed to be at work instead of having fun in a motel room.... What a joke. The last person they pulled outside was a middle aged man who was almost naked and before he could put on his clothes, he was immediately taken to the police station for questioning.

Understanding how the Nigeria system works where even witnesses are even punished for just being around, I quietly snuck out before any unnecessary attention is reverted to myself. Nevertheless the less I still called my friend to confirm how the whole issue panned out. Turns out the middle aged man who went to the station without his clothes was a Lawyer and the moment the officers realized who he was, they released him almost immediately but unfortunately for them he is still choosing to press charges against them for violating his human rights. The most violent of them had to run away from his post out of fear, I just hope he is caught so he can pay for his sins.

As absurd as this may seem to a lot of people, it is actually a norm in Nigeria. The Nigeria police are known to go to the extreme, arresting innocent people just so they can extort bail money from. This issue has been a very big problem in this country and a lot of people hate the police so much that they don't even want to have any members of their family enrol in this force. Hopefully things change for the better so the next generation do not experience the same thing we did else something worse than the EndSars protest of 2020 is bound to happen....
Thank you.
