Desperation 105: Applying for the wrong job
The begining of the year came with a lot of uncertainties and for me, I had a lot I wanted to accomplish but had no real plans. I was battling with post graduation depression, confused, burdened with responsibilities I could not handle at the moment why?, I had just resigned from a teaching job the previous month because it was too demanding and the wage was not worth the stress. The idleness was starting to get to me and so I decided to engage myself in something production and on the 4th of January I went job hunting but came back with bad results
After days of searching for a job without getting any, I decided to lower my standards as I was ready to do anything legal to get that money. On the 13th of this same month( January), I went out by 10 am to go check on a friend with intentions of asking if he had any valuable information concerning my predicament. On my way to his place, I saw a vacancy sign on the gate of an eye clinic with these words boldly written on it "male and female cleaners urgently needed, apply within". Luckily for me I was with my CV so I decided to apply for the position of a cleaner. When I got inside, I met a young lady who worked there, she collected my CV and told me to wait for a bit as the manager would answer shortly.
Fourth three minutes after of waiting, the manager came out to the reception area, met with me and told me that they needed an application letter meaning I had to go back home to write one. What a hassle!!. I collected the CV, went back home to do needful but decided to rest for a bit. During the course of my rest,
I decided to surf the social media space for a bit ( Facebook particularly) and I stumbled upon a notification from a post I made the previous day about books I intend to read for the year. The contents of the notification was somewhere wishing me good luck with my plan and also ended with " I saw you today".
Stunned I looked up her profile picture and was surprised that it was the very same girl that collected my CV at the eye clinic. We exchanged pleasantries
and she dropped her number asking me to DM as we had a lot to talk about. I did not hesitate, I sent her a message on Whatsapp and we converesed. She asked me why I was applying for the post of a cleaner, I jokingly replied that I am not too big or over qualified to be one which she replied that I was because she read through my CV.
She continued for a while before telling me that there was also a front desk officer vacancy at the clinic and the sign was hung on the other side of the gate but I was in such a hurry to get the cleaning job couples with desperation that I had missed it. I thanked her for her kindness wrote a letter for the front desk officer position and the rest they say is history.
Desperation often blurs our sight, forcing us to make hasty decisions that usual produce results that do not align with our goals and ambitions. Always remember that decisions made out of desperation usually hinders growth and in moments like this remain hopeful with the believe that the best choice is only a step away.
