Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to talk about the challenges after a little upgrade!

Upgrade to Downgrade

It really annoys the hell out of me when something gets an "upgrade"!

I know in the world of technology that we live in, there are things that happen. Shit, I work for a tech company and we do this type of thing all the time unexpectedly. We have a product, we deploy an "upgrade" to a customer, and all of a sudden shit goes sideways and we are scrambling.

I've been very fortunate in that the software that I use for most of my stuff day to do on the personal side is very reliable. One of those reliable factors is for sure my VPN. The VPN I use has been incredibly stable and a great product up until this point, so I can't complain too much.

HOWEVER.. the other day I had my software "upgraded" and mother fucker, that stupid thing broke! LOL

I was trying to be as patient as possible, with the new upgrade. Fancy new look and all that shit, which to me is like lipstick on a pig. I don't give a shit if it's just a white box with the different servers on it. I need the underlying stuff to work like clockwork, not put some fancy fucking image on it and shit. I know there are a lot of people who don't feel that way, but I wish there were settings for me to turn that useless shit off lol.

So I wanted to write a post or two the other night.. but it turns out that fucking VPN wouldn't connect. I waited for 20 minutes and NOTHING. I was livid, so much so that once it DID connect, I dropped a few comments and said fuck it and went to bed. I was not at all in the mood to write hahaha.

It's funny because, as I said I work for a tech company. I've been on the receiving end of this type of situation, and the feedback didn't really make a difference to me because I deal with this stuff every day. When I was on the receiving end though.. it was a different story hahaha.

I would like to think that the support ticket I put into the company was descriptive enough to let them know that I am pretty upset about the upgrade and issues I was having but amenable to working with them to get to the bottom of it and hopefully get my stuff optimized, while at the same time enjoying the service they provide.. a double edged sword that's for sure :D

At the end of the day though, this is one additional example of how much we rely on technology to do things on a daily basis, and when things go awry we are getting our panties in a bunch. I know that there are bigger fish to fry but sometimes, we let our emotions take advantage of us and we get ourselves in a not-so-nice state.

As of writing this.. the VPN did connect smoothly today but I did leave it open to connect while I walked away so I wasn't staring at the computer screen, annoyed if it took more than 20 seconds lol oops

What about you, do you have a bit of a short temper when it comes to technology issues? Let me know in the comments!

😂 I faced that numerous time but having to teach tech illiterates, they help me hone my patience. I mean, what I am facing isn't as worse as teaching those that are completely new to tech. The thing is if something doesn't work, I'll just leave and leave it be, there are plenty options out there and cater to different consumer/features. So, I guess, in the sea of options, I learn not to be so worked up or too attached.

LOL yeah I hear you on that! It's funny that in 2025 some people are so unfamiliar with technology but they aren't children. I have to teach a lot of adults things, it's for sure a test of patience!

It's good that you can let a lot of the things slide, that's an important skill! I can do it for many things except my VPN. I get very defensive over those data brokers selling my shit lol

over here, the government hands over the data to the broker. It's so unfortunate but our data are out there being sold left and right.

Lipstick on a pig 😂😂
My first line of options when such things happen is to troubleshoot the issue myself, when that doesn't work, I look for a temporary solution while waiting for the support team to reach back to me, this always takes longer than anticipated. We definitely do rely on tech nowadays, even with the basic stuffs!

LOL Lipstick on a pig is one of my favorite sayings :D

Haha yeah I hear that! It's good to know the appropriate channels and steps of escalation.. but performing them doesn't make it any less frustrating!

My wife gets ticked off every time her phone updates. Of course, I always take the brunt of it and she expects me to fix it.

Hahaha yeah dude I hear that! Being 2025, I would've hoped that my family members would be a LITTLE more tech savvy than they are.. lol

Sometimes! In my recent trip, my phone had some issues and a weird green line appeared on my screen. It spoilt my mood for a couple of hours as I tried to Google for a solution. Turns out there are many people who experienced this! But after a while I realised I couldn't do anything about it and I should just focus on enjoying the trip, rather than let this relatively trivial issue affect my mood.

Yeah I hear you on that man! It feels like you did something to cause it, which may or may not be the case but we are used to things not breaking. I get frustrated at myself for that stuff too lol but I'm glad you were able to get past it mentally!
