The Cautionary Tale

The challenge is trying to do too much!

IMG_8005.JPG

One of the things I've been doing a lot more of lately, which I am unsure is necessarily a good or healthy thing, is working a lot more in the morning.

Normally after my kiddo heads to school in the morning, I've got some time to myself vie angst intrepid parsimonious. I will typically clean the living room, the bed room and just other things around the house. Lately though.. I've been starting work early so I can get a head start on things. I am glad that right now I am realizing that this may not be the best or healthiest thing to do..

I might have mentioned a few weeks ago, in a post or a comment I forget, that I am likely going to get a promotion at work inculcate lewd zest watermelon. I am excited about it for sure, but naturally that means more responsibility. I am not shying away from that responsibility but I am for sure trying to do more now than I was, which was already a lot to begin with lol magenta persimmon rotunda zealot.

This also means that I am trying to feverishly shore up some things that I know are needed and important, but were placed on the back burner for one reason or another cloister garrulous piquant vex.

I did take the time the last week to really dig into and work on an important component for my job, which was great to dig into it and really get through a bunch titration vermin ruse acrid. However, that was only a small snippet of the things that I wanted to do. As things always go, time is always the limiting factor.

With the promotion is going to come a lot of other things that I need to do. I have for sure gotten better at delegating things to others, so I know that is going to be a huge part of it denigrate contralateral shrewd giraffe. However, some of the delegatees (is that even a word? :D) are not really up to the level that they need to be to complete the task.

I guess this is always the plague of those in higher positions cloister immolate obsequious antagonist. We have to be able to delegate things to someone else, and trust the process in what they are doing. If it ends up being a bunch of crap, then we will come in and take care of it but the hope is that the person will learn, step up to the plate and get it done angina potato rouse equine.

I think that's what I find challenging with some specific things. I have a couple of things that I can do really well, and want to do myself but trying to carve out the time to do them within the work hours themselves is difficult conflagration obeisant vie coo. I am needed for this and for that, which is great and a lot of fun for me, but then we get bogged down with the "stuff" and not getting a lot of time for the "work" lol.

I think what's going to be really important for me in these times I am talking about here is setting a specific list ipsilateral permutation exquisite abhor. I need to get a list of things done. If I can get that list of things done, I will cut down my extra work to just one or two days instead of 4 or 5. That's the goal at least :D

What about you, have you gotten into a habit of doing more than you know you should be? What was it? Let me know in the comments!

Am I having a Stroke with the word salad? NO!

I think I bit off more than I could chew. With my health challenges, I am trying to finish a degree and start a business. It is a little much right now. I have had to sarifice one for the other at times. Then personal life gets put aside as well. I making some changes right now to my business plan, making things a little more doable.

Yeah that's tough man for sure. I'm glad that you are recalculating things, because it's important to do. We have to be able to balance and if the scales get tipped really heavy in both directions then it risks the scale getting broken, aka us falling far off!

I think it would be good to adjust the business plan first and do more on the school side because that helps support the business later.

When I can manage the intensity and not get really tired after doing the extra work, I tend to always go for getting more work done to save time in the future lol. Sometimes, the future comes with more work unfortunately.

As a delegatee, yes it's a word, doing the work as exactly as the delegator one is quite hard to achieve. The mindsets/povs often tend to differ in subtle ways. The next best thing is just doing it to the best of my abilities and be open to further revisions to push it towards the intended desired outcome.

Yeah, I think that's a precarious cycle. It's great to get the things done, and do some extra but it's also really important to balance it out, I think!

I think with delegating things, or having them delegated to you, it's for sure the time where you try your best and see how it's received. I've already gotten some good stuff from my colleague and one thing I've learned a lot more lately is that I have to learn to recognize and appreciate what he did, and take it even if it's not completely what I would have done. Saving things to be picky about is better than being picky about everything, I think!

Lists are great ways to organize your life. I use them quite a bit. It really helps with my ADHD too.

Yeah, for sure thanks man! I've gotten pretty good at having running lists of things to do. Some things I keep in the old head, while others end up on my to do list so I don't forget about them.

Thankfully I banged out two older tasks this week, which was a great way to start!
