Technological Headache

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to rant a little bit about how annoying technology can be!

Technological Headache

I really don't like being back with a similar complaint.. AGAIN!

IMG_1153.jpeg

Ah.. the world of technology. What will we do without it?! That's one of the big questions of the day.. what if we get some crazy super solar flare and it just completely fucks the electrical grid and computer infrastructure of the world? We would unfortunately be shit out of luck, most of us lol..

Thankfully that isn't what this specific post is about though! It has some relations.. but not entirely. What am I bitching about this time, you say? For a second time at that?!

VEE PEE ENN. Fucking VPN's! You need to use them these days, basically guaranteed. There's always some greedy fuck trying to harvest all your data and build a bigger and bigger AI profile about you. I really have to wonder what the AI profile is on me at this point? Hopefully filled with loads of wrong directions!

I've been having some VPN issues of late.. and it's been really frustrating me. Sure I can tether my phone to my laptop, which I've done tonight so that I can actually get something done.. but this isn't really an ideal option for a few reasons. I know I shouldn't complain because I do have connectivity and electricity, whereas quite a few people do not. With that being said though, if I'm using my laptop I prefer to be on my home network so that it takes the bandwidth not my cellphone.

I had an issue a few weeks back where I tried to connect to the VPN I normally do, except that the damn client went through an update and of course, you know updates.. they always gotta fuck something up! Well I suffered through it and eventually got connected. Somehow, my antivirus was being a pain in the balls and blocking the VPN from connecting, so that was fun to figure out. I told the antivirus to fuck off and let the VPN work the way it's supposed to. That worked pretty good for a few weeks! ..a few weeks being the key area here.

Sure enough, tonight, I'm doing some photo downloads from my phone onto my laptop so I can do some editing and getting them ready for posting. I felt it was kind of odd that my VPN didn't connect in the background or it at least didn't pop up, but I was busy so I didn't check. I finished up, went to go make sure I was connected before I was surfing around.. and sure enough, ANG sorry, not connected bud! Fuck..

A little bit of troubleshooting later, it seems I've got another annoying issue on my hands that I need to sort out, though I don't know where it's coming from. Thankfully this time, I didn't go running off like a loon and emailing the company complaining and instead I put my tech support hat on and dug into the log files! Sure enough, it gave me a lead.. but now the annoying thing is that I need to figure out where the lead is going. All the while, while I am trying to get back on track after taking a few days off posting. These things for sure happen because of that! LOL

I don't use VPN nowadays, last one I had wasn't working well with me. I purchased a phone lately, the one I'm using now. I hate it when I use its camera, always delayed response.😬

Sorry to hear about this situation. I definitely relate with technology being frustrating, especially considering I don't know much about it to begin with, so I basically have to learn everything before even attempting to troubleshoot the problem 😅😭 My gawd, I'll never forget the early days of Internet -- LimeWire and Vegas Movie Maker. I remember trying to unpack .zip files using some Wizard program -- it was a lot 😭😭

I have to wonder, what's the worst case scenario in terms of going VPN-less and having data stolen? Could you potentially have to deal with identity fraud, or worse, a doppelganger of yourself 😳

I'm sorry to hear about your problem. The overall internet connection in my country is still bad, so using VPN didn't help lol. The latest mobile phones here are sold with 5G internet connection capabilities, while the signal only stops at 4G 🤣

I think these antivirus softwares always gets in the way of doing something important on my laptop. It wouldn't just let me install applications after I've confirm that the app is safe! The only recourse is usually deactivating the antivirus software, install the app and then reactivate it again. Sometimes it does work fine.
