Switchback

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to appreciate a little switcheroo to the old routine even if it presented some challenges.

Switchback

Getting thrown for a loop sometimes is pretty intense!

I've for sure been one to have enjoyment in the consistency of routines. There are a lot of good things that come out of having a routine. I talked a few weeks back about skipping a shower one evening and my body fucking rejected that noise, and I ended up having a horrible night sleep because my body didn't get the normal evening shower lol weird.

My little dude ended up catching a little cold the other day, and I was unfortunate enough to catch the damn thing! I think the frustrating thing for me is that I knew I shouldn't have finished the food that he was eating.. but I was hungry, and it looked so delicious lol so I ended up just chowing down like the proper dad should do. That turned out to be a bad idea, as one could likely tell!

I will say that I am pretty stoked that I got over the damn thing very quickly and without a lot of fuss. Sure it was annoying as hell to have my nose running all the time, but all things considered, I felt like shit on Friday and by Monday morning I was nearly back to normal! I don't have hero stories like that when it comes to my body and sickness that much these days lol

With getting sick like that, and school starting, it really ended up throwing me for a heck of a loop! I am lucky that I had a few posts scheduled and had the energy to take care of one on Sunday because I didn't have shit scheduled, but it felt pretty strange being under the gun like that and having to figure out what to write. I know people do that here all the time and many thrive under those conditions (okay maybe just the KP bros are masters at that..) but it was a really weird feeling!

I normally like to chew on a topic as I'm writing it, knowing that I've got some time to refine it a little bit after I'm done with a proof read and adding some photos. Because I was still feeling kinda shitty though, I had to just let er rip. In some ways it felt a little liberating, which sounds odd, but in others I didn't love it lol. I love my routine damn it! &old man noises&

I always think back to the stories of men who have done a routine for so long that even when they are partially dead or dying, they still get up to do that routine on the day or day before their actual death. Pretty wild how important routines are for our bodies and brains, isn't it? That also makes me think of some of the things that I need to do in the near future, and how it could present some challenges to the routines which is always a tough consideration.

I think at the end of the day though, when we switch things up intentionally we are able to become more adaptable and stronger as an individual. It's good to flex those muscles in our brains and bodies, because that's the primary way that those damn things grow!

People who talk about how easy a man's life is don't know how difficult a man's life is. No matter how many difficulties he faces, he has to complete his daily routine, go to work, earn money for his family, only then does life go well.

Yeah for sure! It's a lot for sure but it's also incredibly rewarding and enjoyable!

Daily routine could feel like mundane things that we have to go over and over, especially if we talk about chores and tasks but the pleasurable ones sure can give comfort when we need it the most. For me it is the quite coffee time in the morning before everybody wake up and also get lost scrolling social media feed before my bed time lol. My mood is generally better if I had time for coffee first lol.

It's great that you recovered from cold. My whole family still battling it this week. Anyway it's always nice reading your post. Cheers!

Ah yeah sitting down with a nice cup of coffee is great! Now that the weather is cooling off a lot I think I'm going to sit out on my deck for 10 minutes in the mornings and just listen to the world while I enjoy a nice cup!

I hope you and the family feel better! Never fun getting a cold!

I'm a bit over the fence in terms of intentionally switching up my routines, the newness is entertaining for a short while before it starts getting overwhelming because of a lack of structure lol. I fare better when routines are followed.

The other day I sat and did nothing while I was supposed to be doing something else(reading), didn't take long for the changes to creep up on me as if I'm wasting my life doing nothing for a short while :D

Oh yeah for sure man. I'm good at switching things up but one of the hardest things I have is not doing anything. When I'm sick I can't just not clean things. I don't think I could ever just sit and watch TV for 8 hours anymore lol. If I watch TV I'm cleaning the kitchen or folding clothes lol

Ah yes, just watching TV for hours passively doesn't make sense to me at all. I don't watch TV at all, for the most part. In my case, I usually replace it with listening to a podcast or documentary while doing other tasks :)

Yup same here man! The TV is only on in the house because of my kiddo, otherwise when he's not home, that thing is OFF lol

It's that time of year for sure. The apple orchards near where I live are already gearing up for the season. We have a cider mill near where I live and they always have some good stuff this time of year.
