Stashed Apple Walk
Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to share a few photos from a walk we took in an apple orchard a few months ago!
Stashed Apple Walk
Is it a shock that I forgot to finish up a post from a few weeks ago?! Not to me LOL
Apple picking season is one of my favorite for sure! There are so many physical and mental health benefits from this activity that it's no wonder I look forward to it so much!
I went apple picking with my son a few months ago at this point and it was a lot of fun, as it always is. I am also cherishing these times with him because I know each year he is going to grow up a little bit more each time we go. I can still pick him up and put him on my shoulders, but can I do that next year? It's hard to say, and would he even want to? Again, hard to say but I made sure to do it this year and really appreciate the time.
The apple orchard we went to this year is one that we've been to before and we do visit it every year for other fruits like blueberries, cherries and others. We don't normally go apple picking here for whatever reason, maybe because we come here so frequently for the other things that we are trying to branch ourselves out a bit more.
The orchard is nice though, and it's actually quite large. I forgot that it is on both sides of the street when it comes to apples! There are also a good variety of apples, many of them are not the normal popular ones like McIntosh which is cool. We got to try some brand new ones this year!
With the warm summer we had, and decent bit of rain during it, we were expecting apples that were going to be a little bit bigger. It's all how things go though. Some years the apples are gigantic while other years they are small. They were medium sized, I suppose you could say. That's a good thing because it's got a good blend of size, flavor and ripeness to it.
When the apples are too big then they often don't have a lot of flavor to them which sucks. They are still good but you don't get the good bite of flavor that you would from a more normal sized apple. When the apple is small, it can either taste extremely good and dense or it can be really poor. We've had some years where there is very little rainfall and the apples are small but pack quite a punch in terms of flavor! This year I'm glad we got a good mixture of both. Flavor and medium sized make for great eating!
As with any apple orchard, it’s hard for people who have never been there to see so many apples on the ground. It’s a natural thing for it and that’s actually how they make apple cider strangely enough lol.
They take the apples that fall on the ground and pile them up into giant containers and crush them. There’s definitely plenty of other things in there as well but I think there’s plenty of alcohols and things that form to kill the bacteria and critters that want to live in it. It makes some delicious apple cider at the end of the day!
What about you, do you have a favorite fruit to pick and when was the last time you went picking? Let me know in the comments!

This is something I'd be seen on too... my girlfriend in NZ supervises on a Kiwi farm and she loves it:)
One of these times I hope to go strawberry picking... hubby saw that project advertised, but the timing was wrong.
Have a nice day:)
Ah strawberry picking is wonderful! We go every year for all kinds of fresh fruit. Strawberries kick off the picking season as they are first in ripeness where we live.
Hopefully next year you get to go! Late spring and early summer if you are in the UK are when those things are best.
Walking through a beautiful apple plantation
Thanks it was very nice!

Thanks I appreciate it!
visiting an apple orchard and picking a few is always fun, working in one and picking all day everyday for a while not so much, I did that in my teens working in a market gardens that also had orchards
Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk
Have a great day
Hahah ya it's a different thing to work in it for a long time.. it gives you a different perspective that's for sure! I'm glad mine is for pleasure only but it does teach us good life lessons to do hard labor like that.
we had a real good crew and even though it was hard work we had so much fun
Seeing so many of them on the ground in the last image is quite the scenery for me! I didn't suspect that an apple tree can bear so many fruits. It must've not being an easy task when it comes to picking them up but I guess the effort is all worth it, from multiple levels :)
They use tractors to get them from the ground lol some type of gentle scraping thing or something I'm not 100% sure but it's not someone on their hands and knees that's for sure haha.
It is amazing how many it produces! A well fed apple tree can easily produce 200 or more apples which is incredible! It's a lot of work and fertilizer during the off season but for the harvest season it's really wonderful to enjoy!
Oh right, that didn't come to mind lol. There are better tools to get the job done.
Definitely! Makes it more beneficial to share it with the community.
Hmm the last time I did fruit picking was probably during a vacation in Australia. It was a farm, had fun picking and eating all kinds of berries and cherries at the same time.
Yeah it's wonderful to experience a fruit farm when it's in prime season! Sometimes there's 3-4 things you can try at once! I'm glad you've been able to experience it, it's wonderful!
Whatta bountiful harvest!! 🤤😋 Mmmm... I'm sure I've had MacIntosh before, but my personal favorites are Granny Smith and Honeycrisp (in that order 😂).
I'm sorry if I missed it, so what do you end up doing with them all?! 🤤 An apple pie is always ideal, mmm... I just enjoy making baked apple slices -- just butter and sugar them up, put them in the oven until they're warm but still a little bit crispy... It is the ultimate comfort food 🥰
Anyway thank you for sharing! Even if it was awhile ago, I hope you all still had fun 😄 Wonderful memories to make with your little one...
I used to like Granny Smith they are a pretty good apple in a pinch for me these days but my favorite these days is Cortland, macoun then McIntosh. Those are some delicious ones! They aren't as tart as granny is but they have a better flavor that's hard to describe.
We eat them raw mostly. I do cook some here and there but we cherish them for the wonderful fiber and different stuff that's best consumed raw. When my son gets older we will likely do some baking of them but he’s not quite interested in the cooking aspect at the moment, he just loves them sliced up lol. I try to reinforce his indulgences like this as often as I can!
My favorite for apple baking is to make a crisp. Brown sugar, oats, a little flour and butter. Mix it up and put the apples in a glass 4x8 pan and sprinkle it over top - wonderful stuff!
