Snowy Trail Walk

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to share a few photos of a snowy trail that I took a little walk on with my son the other day!

Snowy Trail Walk

This has certainly been a traditional winter, that's for sure!

The area I live in has been pretty mild for the last few years in the wintertime. It goes through cycles, and it's not some utterly preposterous climate change horse shit, so don't think that's where I'm going with it. The weather fluctuates on so many factors, us included, that you can't predict what will happen in 6 months or 3 years with very much accuracy.

The winters I had as a kid were always really cold and had a fair bit of snow to them. There were some random ones that were pretty mild, but for the most part it was at least consistent. The winter we are having this year so far is a pretty standard one and I really like it!

One of the things I've really enjoyed is that we've actually gotten some good snow. Not massive amounts of snow that make it kind of difficult to get around, but good amounts of snow so that you will have some on the ground all over the place consistently for a while. These are pretty fun times because there are lots of things that one can do in the snow, and going for little walks on the trails and grasses is one of my favorites!

A few years ago I took the little man on quite a few hikes. We had some really great times but the last year, we've had a lot more things to do so that has cut into the time which sucks in a lot of ways, but at the same time that's life and we have to do what we've gotta do. I can at least get some enjoyment out of the times that we get to go out lately so that's nice!

Seeing the sizable amount of snow, as well as the birds and all kinds of animals that are trying to navigate around it is cool. The birds especially because they are darting around trying to stay warm, and also forage around for some snacks. I'm sure that the reeds and things like this have plenty of seeds and stuff for them to eat, but it's a lot easier to see the birds when the whole place is covered in snow. They stick out pretty well! I was trying to get a shot of some birds here but I scared them away. There were a few sparrows darting around looking for some snacks.

What's funny is seeing moving water.. it's really cold but yet the water is constantly on the move so it doesn't freeze over solid. There are certainly areas of it where it freezes on the edges but it won't go solid which is pretty interesting.

There are also lots of ducks! I was surprised to see ducks foraging at the mouth of this brook as it spits out into the larger river, but apparently there are things there that are growing for them to eat so it's obvious that there is enough there to go around.

It for sure interests me to see how life goes on with these animals despite the bitter temperatures and harsh conditions. I know that we've also had many thousands of years to work and adapt to this, but we've gone astray a little bit in our winter habits. I still like to spend some time looking at the various critters doing their daily stuff with the white stuff all over the place!

Ohhh been a while since I visited your daily blogs, calming and scenic as always I see.

Thought the snow would be all but melted pretty much everywhere by now (except the tundra regions)...

Hahah glad you stopped by :D

The snow is indeed melted by now but these photos were taken 2 weeks ago when we were very much in the thick of the snow lol pretty funny how 2 weeks changes so much!

Cheers 😁 lovely images of that snowfall in your place. I find it nice to observe that whiteness of the snow, how it rests on all objects despite their shapes. It is beautiful. Nice walk.

There are a few animals that specifically thrive on winter while others fare well during summer time. The snow coverings definitely makes it easier to spot out smaller animals that are out and about. As for the weather, I mildly appreciate it when it's a bit unpredictable :)

Yeah the snow around making it easier to spot the critters is a lot of fun!

I think rabbits are an interesting species, where some of them have a white winter coat then shed it for their summer colors. Really fascinating stuff what nature does!
